Glad Jeff Bridges has been nominated, he's a great actor. And happy for Michael Shannon another solid actor, although not seen Nocturnal Animals so will have to get round to that. Not sure about Meryl Streep for Florebce Foster Jenkins. I started to watch that and had to switch it off, it was so animated and am-dram, started to annoy me. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood, I might try again. Natalie Portmans nominated for Jackie but not the actual film. There seems to be a wide range of films represented this year with La La Land appearing in most categories.

The fact that Amy Adams isn't a nominee (especially for Arrival, but Nocturnal Animals too) just continues to demonstrate what a pile of shite the whole thing is (awards shindigs generally, not just the Oscars, as it happens).

The 89th Oscars are on tonight hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. It's on Sky Cinema at midnight with the ceremony on around 1.30am.
I think for the first time since the 90s, (about '94-'95 when Letterman hosted and the year before that, when it was on BBC with Jonathan Ross in LA) I won't be watching. I've usually seen a few of the Oscar moms but I've only seen Jackie this year. None of the films have grabbed me where I want to see them and because I haven't seen the films I'm not so bothered about which actors win. I'll catch up on the winners tomorrow.

"I was not joking" implored Warren Beatty...but he swiftly threw Faye Dunaway under the bus by making her read it out when she clearly thought he was larking about by not announcing immediately.
Though, it probably would be better if the had the award name in a large clear font above the name of the winner and not in a, relatively, tiny script at the bottom.
You're right though Mike...it seems to be more newsworthy than the commencement of the sex abuse inquiry. It's really not that important. Funny, but not that important.

Why did it take so long for an official to come on stage. I think they were onto the 2nd or 3rd producer making their speech before someone said something. One of the LaLa guys took the card to show the audience to say that it wasn't a joke but where did that card come from because that's not the one that Warren Beatty had been holding and Emma Stone confirmed that she had her Best Actress card from when she won her award so how were there two best actress cards printed and why? Personally I would have small numbers on the front so you know the order and inside it should say what they want the presenter to say so to the letter, word for word: The academy award for best picture goes to
MOONLIGHT
Producers Bob, Jim and John etc.
That way Beatty's envelope would have had him saying "The academy award for best actress goes to..." and right away people would have known something was wrong.

Bigger shock for me.......Halle Berry's Hair - I loved it. As for..... Warren should've said, as soon as he opened that envelope.....you gave me the wrong one.

I don't understand why Beatty didn't just say I think this is the wrong envelope. In his defence it only says the award, so Best Actress, in tiny writing at the bottom. Also do you want to question if you have the right envelope if front of millions of people when you assume that as this is the biggest might night of the year the people in charge will know what they're doing.
The news said that apparently Beatty and Dunaway were given the wrong envelope, they have two backstage, one is a spare. They were given the spare best actress envelope in error hence why Emma Stone still had her envelope.
---- From the Hollywood Reporter including pwc statement.
Later in the night, they released the following statement: "We sincerely apologize to Moonlight, La La Land, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for Best Picture. The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred. We appreciate the grace with which the nominees, the Academy, ABC, and Jimmy Kimmel handled the situation."
When approached by THR at the annual Governors Ball afterparty, Dunaway refused to comment.
When speaking backstage after the on-air moment, Jenkins said he hadn't received an explanation from the Academy about what happened. The Academy later shared PricewaterhouseCoopers's statement on the matter.
An eyewitness backstage told THR that after Dunaway announced La La Land, a stage manager was heard saying, "That's the wrong envelope. It's Moonlight."
Traditionally there are two sets of winners' envelopes printed and stuffed into two briefcases, with two PwC accountants standing on opposite ends of the stage ready to hand the envelopes to the presenters.
When speaking about the moment on ABC's aftershow, Kimmel said the envelope Beatty was handed said best actress on it.
"He was confused because the card — which he showed to me, by the way — said 'Emma Stone, La La Land' on it," said Kimmel. "This was confusing, obviously. We thought he was being coy and cute and milking it to make everybody suffer, but in reality he was perplexed by why her name was on it."
When asked by Anthony Anderson why Beatty wouldn't just ask for help, Kimmel added, "Warren Beatty has had so much sex, he can't think about things like that anymore."
