Alistair Cook has resigned his captaincy: "Stepping down has been an incredibly hard decision but I know this is the correct decision for me and at the right time for the team," said Cook. "Playing for England really is a privilege and I hope to carry on as a Test player, making a full contribution and helping the next England captain and the team however I can." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/38376729

Have to say I'm not actually surprised. Five years is a long time under that kind of pressure. Shame he couldn't go out on a win though.

He had a good run but it was his time to go, just hope Root is one of those players that can cope with being captain and playing well.
