Is anyone listening to this? Every Monday towards the end of PM, Steve Hewlett, who presents The Media Show, has been discussing his cancer diagnosis and treatment with Eddie Mair. The interviews are available as clips here: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04p07t7. Well worth a listen if you haven't already. Steve approaches it as a piece of journalism. Very down to earth and practical, and moving without being emotional.

Great article; thanks for posting, mikebird. I had found the Observer columns which are similar to the interviews, but without the immediacy and intimacy of hearing him speak, obviously. I had thought that the interviews were on PM because he and Eddie Mair already knew each other (which they may do, of course), but it sounds as if it was in order to reach the widest possible audience and with the best possible interviewer.

I'm sorry to say that Steve Hewlett died this morning. He was last on the PM programme last Monday and I did wonder from the nature of the conversation if it might be the last time. Extracts from his interviews with Eddie Mair over the last months are being broadcast right now on PM. I've been quite upset by this; I don't normally feel upset by the death of public figures who are people I don't know personally, but this has been such a warm series of interviews that, like many listeners, I feel I've come to know him and have greatly appreciated his pragmatic approach to his illness as well as his general joie de vivre.
RIP Steve.
