Aretha Franklin is one of those artists who really is an artist. She is an incredibly talented singer whose career spans many decades, and whose music has been so influential because she was seen as asymbol of America's civil rights movement from very early in her career. Late last night, the Detroit Free Press posted an article online headed "Thank you, Ms. Aretha Franklin, for changing my life", suggesting that this will be her final year of touring, and the year of her final album which she will be making with Stevie Wonder. There were other articles on this, but I chose this one, because it a more personal article on how the reporter in question had been inspired and influenced by Ms Franklin, and as such more than the sort of article that will appear in a number of papers, built up from news archives. Because, for many people, this was what her music was, or if not her music, any of the other great musicians of her time. This is where her value really lies. www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/detroit/2017/02/11/aretha-franklin-retirement/97788138/
