Just finished watching Leach/Pioline v Bahrami/McEnroe - on court two. As usual, the rules of the game occasionally were forgotten as, fun tennis took centre stage.

Who won? (I realise that is not really the point in such matches.)

Bahrami and McEnroe (I should add that this was actually a senior doubles match and that the McEnroe was Patrick, and not John) At one point Pioline was on the other side of the net and hit the ball into the net to win a point for his side.

There was a similarly funny invitation men's doubles on the red button last night ( Ivanisevic and 3 Swedes) On Court One. All the fooling around you would expect (mainly from Goran) and the umpire was happy to play a shot ( and award himself a point in the process...) It's a pity there were so many empty seats - in my day, that was half the fun of having a ticket that lasted till dusk. What is wrong with people?

I watched that double match, too. Highly entertaining. But the first ladies' semi-final, what a disappointment. How the women get paid the same in Slams is beyond me; less than an hour compared with two 4-hour matches for the men yesterday.....

If we have an all Williams final I won't bother watching, it is very hard to care which sister wins and there's less joy at the end. Serena will equal Stefi's record, which would be great. Venus isn't likely to win but it would be a great comeback. For me though it is zzzzzzzzzz.

I'm with you on that, Flea. Never enjoy watching the Williams sisters play each other. However, the way Kerber is currently going, hopefully it will be a repeat of this yr's Aussie final instead.

Watching the Chang/Phillipousis/Ferreira/Grossjean doubles. So entertaining after the Williams borefest.

I can't think of a single reason (other than the scheduling issues there would be at Slam events) why women should not play 5 set matches against each other. No one is suggesting that tennis should be unisex, after all. In athletics, women still run the same marathon length and all the same distances as men; most of the field events are the same (why not do a decathlon as well?). I'm a feminist and I rarely express sexist sentiments, (apart from those in favour of the female side) but this is one where the same pay rate (and what a pay rate....) should equal (roughly) the same labour. Perhaps someone has a different view?

No, I agree. Play 5 sets or take a pay cut.
Compare yesterday's men's matches and today's 48 minute snoozefest with Serena and thingy.

Whilst I agree the women should have to do five sets, it would have made no difference to the quality of the tennis today in Serena's match, just a longer snooze fest.
Glad Kerber won, she's looked the only one that can give Serena a proper match IMO.

Who won? (I realise that is not really the point in such matches.) I'm 'sure' with those hugely entertaining matches, watched that one too - they flip a coin in the changing room, before the match. Umpire was very funny too....getting the crowd to vote - and play continuing while two were arguing and score carried on. snoozer_11
