What a horrible thing to happen. That poor umpire will have one hell of a headache. I hope he didn't do too much damage to his eye.
The sad thing is, a moments temper will be remembered forever rather than the players tennis skills and he has the making of an excellent one. (He was Wimbledon Junior Winner last year )
Whatever, Kyle would have won anyway and well done to him for playing a good match.

Davis Cup Quarterfinals: Friday April 7 to Sunday April 9.
Hopefully Andy Murray will be available to play against France.
At the moment it looks like Argentina will be going through. Italy were two sets down last time I checked.

Fognini won in five sets to take Italy through to the quarter finals of the Davis Cup. Argentina, the current champions, are out.

Crikey! I guess it all hinges on whether the top players turn out. Any top 10 player could probably take their country right through to the final if the opponents didn't have their highest ranked ones available. It does mean the trophy moves around from yr to yr, which I think is good.
Apparently our ladies have done very well in their Fed cup tie, winning all 3 of their matches to date. They now have a play-off with Croatia and if they win, they will be in the World Group. Splendid work!

It would appear that the umpire who was hit in the eye by that tennis ball in the Davis cup, has had an operation for a fractured eye socket.

Ouch, indeed! Hope there is no lasting damage done. I expect we will see the rules about ball abuse tightened as a result ... and no bad thing. Racquets these days are very powerful and there are a lot of people on court (ball kids, lines persons, etc) potentially in the line of fire. Good news re our ladies in the Fed cup. They have won their match against Croatia, so will now be in a play-off later in the yr to try to get into the World group. |

That's a great result for our women. The Fed Cup final was shown on Eurosport last year. It was very entertaining.
That poor umpire. I hope he will be able to go back to his job. The miscreant should serve a ban for a few months as well as his fine.
