Pretty isn't it. But sorry, no idea what it is.

It's very pretty! I'm hoping it's not something I'm going to have to pull out.

What does it smell like Miranda? To me the nearest thing to how it looks is oil seed rape and that smells of cabbages so if that is so, that is what it must be.

It could well be. It is growing under the birds seed feeder and I tend to get corn and wheat and all sorts growing there cos birds are messy eaters.
I didn't notice a smell yesterday but then I have lavender not far away from it so the garden mostly smells of that.

I agree that it’s a perennial crop. Could it be rocket? Or some variety of spinach? Those sorts of things do often have yellow flowers at this time if they’ve been left to go to seed since the previous year. But veg don’t normally emerge like that unless someone previously grew them in situ. There’s a smartphone app called GardenAnswers, but it’s tricky to set up and wants access to your Photos files, which you may not want to grant.

Nah, not keen on that idea.
Just remembered I'm a member of the Gardener's World forum so I will go and ask over there.
Thanks everyone.

I am glad the mystery is solved Miranda. Will you keep the plant or pull it out. After all, it is still the same to look at and as long as the smell is not disagreeable why not keep it.

Oh no, I'm going to keep it. At least until it's finished flowering. Then I wll see if it self-seeds.
