If you already watch The Americans, you are probably one of its small but evangelical fanbase who think it’s the best serialised drama since Dickens. If you don’t watch The Americans, spoiler alert: it’s not only the best drama on TV right this second, but it is also spookily on the nose. The show, whose fifth series begins tonight in the US and will be on Amazon Video in the UK within a few months, follows two KGB spies living undercover in the Washington suburbs as married couple Elizabeth and Philip Jennings. They have two children- who think their parents are all-American travel agents- and a neighbour who works for the FBI. inews.co.uk/opinion/want-understand-trump-russia-watch-americans/

I was watching and enjoying it until it was put on a channel I don't have access to. Harrumph.

Seasons 1-3 are included in Amazon Prime, and season 4 is available at a cost - which implies that season 5 will initially not be free.
The series never really appealed to me so I haven't watched any - and I'd have an awful lot of catching up to do if I started now...

ITV started showing this but put the last series on Encore and now it's moved to Amazon. Sometimes you're better and cheaper getting the Box set. So you've started in a free channel then forked out for Sky to get Encore and now need to pay for Amazon or switch over. Great show though.

I have started re-watching The Americans on Disney+. We, too, didn't see the later episodes so I don't know what happened. Our granddaughter has put us onto Disney + so I can see it whenever I want. It is a brilliant series with great acting from Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell. They are now a couple and have a son born in 2016. Apparently Matthew speaks Welsh to him all the time!

I thought this was a fabulous show. I am just amazed at how they bodged up the scheduling of it, well in fact I don’t think we got the last series until quite recently on ITV (very late night of course). To my mind this should have been a 9 or 10pm show on a major channel.

Agreed, as it originally was. I've only seen the first couple of series.

I think the final episode, and the music they use, is a stunning piece of TV.

I didn't get as far as that. I am not sure how far we got the first time.
I do wonder if we are supposed to sympathise with Elizabeth and Phillip or not!

Well I found her quite unpleasant but he was more nuanced. I thought he brought the few bits of humour. The one I absolutely couldn’t stand was the daughter Paige. I also enjoyed the performance of Margo Martindale as their handler, and course the lovely Oleg and Nina. I found the FBI agent Stan quite unpleasant at times but I imagine he was extremely well-liked by an American audience. I never like the way these agencies, in TV dramas, manipulate civilians into undercover work and if that means they are compromised or killed, well tough.

Obviously he found her pleasant! They are partners in real life now. But I know what you mean. He seemed to have more of a conscious than she did.
