I do wish it wasn't always the family who killed the person. Very often it is the child/stepchild. I wish she'd come up with a random one now and again.

With Vera I always work on the assumption that the killer is the most insignificant character, the one who the viewer is the most likely to overlook as that has so often been the case in past series. To that end last night I had picked out the gatekeeper/security guard. Maybe the writers have decided to change tactics!

I decided it was Jess’s Mum! I wondered if she didn’t approve of Jess and Sam so hated Lisa for allowing them to be together, because she seemed to dislike nearly everyone, 😂. I didn’t actually work out how she could have done it though.

When did Vera move out of her Dad's house?

About Vera’s father…. I thought he was an emotionally abusive parent which was why I could never understand her staying in his home. Now have I got that wrong? Also, the little episode description refers to her family being very upper crust/affluent and living in some splendour. Did we know this?

Eh? Her family most certainly weren't that I remember! Her dad was a poacher and small time crim. Unless her mom came from money but I don't remember any mention of that either. Have we missed an episode?
I understood her taking the house though. It was big and free of mortgage and isolated away from all the crap.

I’ve looked on the RT site and it refers to Brockburn House, “the Stanhope family’s ancestral pile”. It also references her “wealthy, snooty” relatives.
Vera’s house may be big but it always looks a bit of a dump to me. It still looks like her father’s place, rather than hers. But I guess she is comfortable with that.

What made me ask was her coming out of a completely different house this week.

A house like Vera's close to the Northumberland coast with all those outbuildings and land would go for a fortune. Perhaps the owners sold it or did it up and now they need a new location for the series.
I have no idea if that's right, but it might be a reason. After all sitting on a pile like that for a decade or so and not being able to do up the outside etc. might drive you nuts.

This episode is an adaptation of The Darkest Evening, one of Anne Cleeves' Vera books which I read when it came out and it does involve some of her relatives.

If they no longer had access to the house.
