This episode is an adaptation of The Darkest Evening, one of Anne Cleeves' Vera books which I read when it came out and it does involve some of her relatives. Is that tonight's episode? I shall look forward to it! I'm guessing it has something to do with her refusing a medal?

The prices in Northumberland shot up in the pandemic. Strange isn't it. People wanted to move to the country and then the towns in Northumberland got hit with covid and it rampaged through the place.

No wonder she has nothing to do with this arm of the family. That husband makes my fist itch!

I knew it was him as soon as I laid eyes on him!
Which thinking about it, isn't a good thing in a crime drama.

No, again, he had no reason to be in the story unless he was involved. He wouldn't have been in that scene in the kitchen if he had just been someone out for a walk who found the body. I don't know if it was just the actor but I couldn't for the life of me see why that young girl would have been involved with him.

He had some very strange mannerisms didn't he? Very creepy. It's a while since I read the book - I think it was during lockdown - and, whilst I remembered that the killer was one of that family I couldn't remember which one it was. In the book the storm was a blizzard, not rain and wind. It was probably cheaper and easier to simulate that than snow!

And why would he be wandering about the woods in the middle of a huge storm with bits of tree flying through the air unless he was the murderer?

{Casting Spoilers}A second star of ITV's Sunday night drama Vera has quit the show, as bosses announced it will return for a thirteenth series.
Following Kenny Doughty's announcement that he would be leaving the show, actress Ibinabo Jack, who has played DC Jacqueline 'Jac' Williams since 2018, has confirmed she will not return for series 13 due to her theatre commitments.
Star Brenda Blethyn is set to once again reprise her role as the no-nonsense detective DCI Vera Stanhope, while actor and director David Leon makes a welcome return as Joe Ashworth.

I hadn’t heard about the first departure, let alone the second!

I hadn’t heard about the first departure, let alone the second! Nor had I and I am sorry about them both but the final sentence gives some very good news in mitigation.

I enjoyed that one. Plot was a tad daft but it was played well.

As I was watching I remembered that I had read the book and so I knew the outcome but I still enjoyed it.
