Although it's old news, I've only just found out about series 4, which will again be one story spread across six episodes. Filming has now started, and Tosh is still in it - there was speculation she might not be at the end of the previous series. I see Norway is among the filming locations this time. uk.news.yahoo.com/shetland-filming-of-series-4-is-under-way-153649630.htmlShetland is one of my favourites, so I'm greatly looking forward to this.

Oh that's good, the last one was a bit dour and tied itself up in knots a bit with a sloppy ending etc. but I'll still watch

That is good news. I knew there would be another series but not when it was filming. At the end of the last series Tosh had decided to relocate away from Shetland and this article confirms she did that, so I wonder how they'll work her back into the story?
Like series 3, this will be a new story not adapted from one of Ann Cleeves' original stories, but that's no surprise as there are only four books in the series and they've already been adapted. I found the last series less dense in terms of plot, as you'd expect from something written for TV, and will be quite happy if the new series follows it in style. Norway sounds an interesting diversion!

Shetland series 4 starts Tuesday 13 February, 9.00 pm BBC1. Link to BBC media centre follows, but as it contains quite a full description of the first episode I've put it behind a spoiler:

It looks as if it's one episode per week, as the last series was. Let's hope it isn't constantly postponed, rescheduled and generally mucked about by football as the last series was!

I wonder if it will be a box set on iPlayer as seems to be the convention these days?
I’ll be ok with that as I’m a bit of a binger. (Sp?) If the drama is poor, you can get through it quicker or abandon it and if it’s good ( which I expect Shetland will be) then you can set aside an evening or a weekend day and enjoy the binge.

Strong opening episode, I thought, with a sad inevitability about the gang of vigilante thugs at the end. I assume Thomas will survive – seems too early to bump him off (though that hasn't been the case in other series such as Line of Duty). Stephen Walters has one of those faces you know without necessarily knowing who he is. His IMDB entry is as long as your arm, with lots of supporting roles.
I was a bit distracted early on while waiting for an explanation of why Tosh is still there – all the tying off of characters' stories was untied, so we now have Cassie back and Sandy once again single. Presumably Rhona's partner is languishing in prison in Glasgow, or at least out of the picture on Shetland, and we won't be seeing Asha the witness protection officer again. I hope not – she's not right for our Jimmy!
Stunning scenery and filming as usual – they even managed to make the graveyard look picturesque.

I thought this was a very good start. Is it just going to be one story again, do we know? One paper I read said yes, and one said multiple stories so I dont know. Is the daughter being p!ayed by a different actress?

No, Cassie is the same actress (Erin Armstrong) but she's been disappointed in love and let down by her lovely Brazilian boyfriend so she isn't as smiley as before!
I believe it's a single story. The first two series were adaptations of Ann Cleeves' novels and were all two-parters. This series and the previous one were written for television. Apparently they are popular overseas, which perhaps bodes well for more series.
