Probably connected with what you've been talking about...
For the last five days or so, been getting an annoying pop-up from ProBoards which appears at the bottom of the screen and reads: "Can we talk?" (next line) "We work hard to provide the best communities"
There's no exit option on this: one has to click a > and then it comes up with an invitation to either: "Disable Ad Blocker" or "Get ProBoards+" (which obviously requires a monthly subscription payment - I looked it up). There is a third option - "Sorry, I'll do it next time" - which I have been using to get rid of the wretched thing. Will I have to do this indefinitely or will I have to take the plunge and disable the ad-blocker (concerned that the forum will be thereafter slower to load...)

It costs 2.99 (will check currency) a month for probords + and it gives you add-free as an individual on all probords forums.
l can only repeat, (l doubt many of us read it),but under the TOS we all agreed to that ad-blockers would not be used,it is ads that fund the forum, not members.
The pop-up is their way of reminding.
It is worth pointing out that any troublesome ads should be reported by using the report ad tool at the bottom of the page.
l don't use any ad-blocker and there are no loading issues.

I don't seem to get ads on this site, even though I have instructed my ad-blocker to allow them. Hmm.

I don't use an ad-blocker, here, but I have set privacy to high, stopping sites from tracking my activity which seems to have cut off the ads anyway.

Interesting, Patterry; I wonder if that has something to do with my situation - the same system (part of my anti-virus software) which has an ad-blocker also blocks attempts to collect data.

If it operates in the same way as what I am using does, that is probably what it is. I have set my browser to tell sites not to track, but some do it anyway, so I explicitly ramped up the privacy settings to stop it with the added benefit that it blocks off ads. It's not quite at 100%, though. If it were, the board would lose all formatting, and I couldn't post, but even that is contained within a very restricted area on this forum.

Right,
Probords plus is $2.99 per month or $3.99 one off purchase, so what the equivalent is in sterling/euro etc. would have to be calculated .
If anyone wants to go ahead, go to profile>gift and go from there, as l said this is a personal ad-free option.

Well, I must have been one of those naughty people who didn't read the required whatever - oops! Anyway, have turned off ad-blocker (I think) and so far so good...seems to have satisfied the pop-up's demands

Just to let everyone know, disabling your ad blocker only affects your view of the forum. It doesn't affect anyone else. So if you want to, go ahead.

Interestingly, what I thought I'd done correctly hasn't worked and the wretched pop-up is even more persistent now - it came up when I wasn't even logged into the forum and I couldn't 'move' or do anything further until I'd 'answered' it one way or another. I haven't a clue how to disable my ad-blocker for this site only: the instructions on the pop-up would only work, I suspect, if my ad-blocker was displayed on my browser, which it's not for some reason (have to go into my computer's main menu to find it and it only offers the option of disabling it for everything). Fed-up and not visiting the forum so often because of this. I know it's not your fault, Miranda or Geoffers, it's just me not being techy savvy enough to do the necessary

Does your ad-blocker give you the option to 'whitelist' sites?

It depends which blocker it is and what browser is used.
There is lots of info out there, so check it out and come back if stuck.

Privacy Badger from the EFF might help: Privacy BadgerIt is not an ad blocker, it is an extension that you can use to block trackers. In other words it will block anything that is trying to track you, but not anything that doesn't, which is a privacy issue.

Does your ad-blocker give you the option to 'whitelist' sites? I honestly don't know - can see that this is going to be something I will need to look at more thoroughly...
Ta, Geoffers, "I may be gone some time" >rolls eyes< - and thanks as well, Patterry, for the description of Privacy Badger, which I've never heard of before! You're all so clever
