Can't remember which channel it was but the other night there was a progamme about the people who answer 999 calls and the sort of calls they get. Hard to believe but one operator got a call from a man who said that his pet Pitbull had just bitten him on the testicles and he had stubbed his cigarette out on the wound "to cauterise it"!! Sorry but I laughed. What sort of idiot does that?

It was on Channel 4,and it was about the ambulance service.
Shows how stretched they are, also what training they get when they have to talk through CPR over the phone whilst waiting for the ambulance to get there, and got a girl breathing again.
Good programme, police next week.

I was in tears at that poor lady whose husband had died. They have to deal with a right load of idiots though.

When I was at school, it was originally part of the Anatomy Physiology and Health curriculum, connected to the PE department. They (the council) took it off 'because if somebody tries it, and makes a mistake ...' you can imagine the rest.

I remember hearing about someone ringing 999 because they'd lost their remote control. I hope it's not a true story! But it might be....

The court's time shouldn't have to be wasted on this sort of thing.

I agree they should be fined for wasting the emergency services time ... a few years back on Boxing Day an elderly neighbour of ours collapsed in a bus shelter we covered him in a quilt and phoned 999 for an ambulance .. it took them over 2 hours to get there and it was about 3 below zero !! .. maybe people ringing up wasting their time might like to think about things like that

They (the council) took it off 'because if somebody tries it, and makes a mistake ...' you can imagine the rest. But the same can be said about any first-aid volunteers. St. Johns and BRC seem to get by without being sued. Being somewhat cynical, I tend to suspect that some use it as an excuse for not doing anything, or spending money. I understand that First-Aid is taught in German and Swedish schools.
