i have posted in the green room about my internet problems, but thought it might be better here.
My internet light on my talk talk router went out, and after a long talk with the call centre located in The Philippines he said "there was work going on in my area" and suddenly my internet came back on again. 2 weeks later the same thing happened. This time it was a long conversation with the call centre in South Africa, and they sent out an engineer 4 days later. He pressed the reset button at the back of my router (why couldn't they have told me to do that in the first place?) and my internet came back on. This lasted 2 days (until yesterday). Right in the middle of Poldark, suddenly I had no internet. (Insert sad face!) Not wanting to wait another 4 days I tried pressing the reset button using a paper clip myself. Nothing happened. I think I may have broken it. Then I remembered the previous tenant of the flat had left their talk talk router behind, and I had shoved it in a cupboard (along with the rest of her stuff) Can't get rid of it, the previous tenant happens to be the landlords daughter. So I get out the router and try connecting it. It works perfectly, though it is half the size of my router. Any ideas on this? Have I broken my router? Should I tell talk talk and ask for another one?

I use a different router from the one my ISP sent me, and it was not a problem.
Any serious problem would only really arise if the settings on the router you are now using, are not connected to your account. When you connected the different router, you normally have had to put in your own settings (username and password) to connect it to your account, very rarely do they automatically pick up the correct settings. You need to confirm this and, if there is a problem, you need to report it as soon as possible.

The new talk talk router had a different number, and this flashed up in my Settings on my iPad. I got the password (for that router) on the back of router, and put that into my iPad settings next to the new router number. Then it all worked fine. My only electronic device is my iPad.

These aren't the settings that I am talking about. The settings you are talking about are those that connect your iPad to the router, the wi-fi password. There are other settings which connect the router to the wider network. Your broadband username will be your telephone number followed by @talktalk.net e.g. 0123456789@talktalknet The password will be your broadband password, not the wi-fi password which connects your iPad to the router. help2.talktalk.co.uk/broadband-security/routers/setup-1
