What the...!!!
What unbelievable numpty persuaded the C4 top brass to agree to that carbuncle at the top left of the screen?!!!
I switched over to settle down to the Planet Of The Apes film on Saturday and I noticed the 'intrusion'. "I didn't know I'd tuned into C4 HD," I thought. I hadn't! First Channel 5 did it, then ITV and now the public service broadcaster Channel 4 has caved in too.
Don't they realise that it's a pointless thing to do? It serves no purpose in the digital television age. All we have to do is press the EPG button on our remote. If the powers that be are so worried about viewers always needing to know which channel they're watching then they need to keep the DOG visible during commercial breaks. That's when I do my channel hopping. Curiously, most (if not all) broadcasters schedule their breaks at the same time. So, I'm hopping from commercial break to commercial break.
Solution! Scrap the latest silly C4 idents, reinstate the previous ones and dump the DOG!
As of now I'm watching C4 less often than I did before.

I haven't noticed this either, but I don't watch much on there either now.
The DOGs are annoying. Some can be quite light and you only really notice them if the screen is very dark and then it shows up. But some are massive and intrusive. Lots of people complain about these but the channels go ahead anyway. I wonder if they have any complaints if they remove them. I doubt it. The only thing I can think of is if someone records a programme and puts it online, the DOG acts like a stamp of where it's been recorded...and maybe a bit of advertising for the channel!

They are so prevalent nowadays I've reached the stage of never noticing them...which, I suppose, renders them redundant!

Hi captainmouse and Geoffers...
We must be watching a different Channel 4. On mine the recognisable "4" logo is in the top left of the screen. As one of the original terrestrial channels it's very disappointing that the C4 execs have given in to this fad. And, it is a fad. It achieves nothing. "Everyone else does it, so we must as well".
A leading television personality this week predicted that in about 5 years time scheduled television will not exist. Besides the streaming services already available, nearly every broadcaster has their version of the iPlayer. More and more people are choosing what they want to watch, and when. At work three of my workmates have abandoned 'ordinary' telly. They've taken out subscriptions to one of the two main streaming services. I'm seriously tempted. No adds, no DOGs and no interfering voiceovers. Broadcasters aren't doing themselves any favours by adding redundant nonsense, like DOGs, to their channels.

If that happens there will be a lot of people in rural areas, such as where I live, that won't be able to see much TV then. Internet speeds need to be vastly improved for us before watching TV online is anything other than very frustrating.A mobile phone signal would be nice to have as well.

Never going to happen, the infrastructure that is in place to receive a tv signal via satellite ,cable, or roof top ariel, free ,other than licence fee, will be around for some time yet.
It ain't broke,so don't fix it comes to mind.
What will happen is that people will pay extra for extra, that is a personal choice.
But it does not mean any major change.

I watch Four in a Bed on C4 most afternoons and can honestly say I have never noticed the DOG. I made a point of looking for it today. It is virtually transparent so, to me, it wasn't at all intrusive, especially as it is in the very top left-hand corner of the screen which isn't in my normal field of vision anyway when watching a programme.

I looked out for it as well, and it's not so bad. I'd prefer them not to be there but at least it's very light and transparent so doesn't overpower and it's quite small. I'm watching Lumley on ITV and there's is similar. The ones I hate are the huge dark DOGs that stand out a mile and are so big that if a character is on the side of the screen where the DOG is it can look like a tattoo on their forehead or even cover an eye if it's too far in from the edge of the screen.

Remember that massive pink one they had on BBC 3 for a while?
