The theatre group is off to see this on Wednesday. I have just read that there was a punch up in the audience last week! Apparently when a chap complained about a woman using her mobile phone throughout the first half, her partner laid into him in the interval! I believe they then left. Or were asked to leave. I shall be leaving mine at home as usual in case it goes off by some mischance and I am publicly shamed! I can think of cheaper places to sit and use your mobile than in a London theatre. Some people are mad, not to mention inconsiderate. I wish Rhys Ifans had told her what she could do with her phone!

Can’t you just put it on silent Marion?

That's what the intervals for, use the mobile phone then. It's the same in cinemas. People think because they're not talking on it it's ok to text and surf online because they're not making any noise... except you have a 5in screen lit up like a Christmas tree and if you're sat next to or behind it it's really distracting. Hope you have a good time with no distractions.😉

I didn’t mean to use it on silent I meant so that it wouldn’t ring if someone called you. It’s the height of rudeness to be using a phone during a show of any kind. Taking photos too.

If you can't not use a phone for 2hrs (usually with a break in the middle) I think they have a problem. I've used a phone to take a picture but not at a theatre, at a music concert, and during the bows/good byes at the end, where the artist was playing up to it. Not throughout the entire show, especially during an acting show, if it was me I'd lose my thread and wouldn't know where I as!

During a music gig is different, but in a play no no no. I can’t remember who it was but a well known actor stopped his performance when someone’s phone rang during it and threw quite a strop.

Helen Mirren has been known to get rather annoyed as well.

You can’t blame them can you? They must have to concentrate so hard to remember their lines and to keep in character and then some numpty in the third row is chatting to a mate

Can’t you just put it on silent Marion? I work on the principle that it would go horribly wrong! Either that or the screen would somehow be visible and spotted by the actor who would come and shout at me. I think several actors have stopped the show and asked the offender if they would like to take that call or could the show continue. I would die of shame. I don't think people generally make calls but they either use the internet (I assume if they are bored) or text. It's like when people unwrap their sandwiches and start to eat their lunch at the start of a matinee. I'm sure Michael Ball has said something then cos he always went on about that on his radio show. There you are giving your all and someone is unwrapping then scoffing a cheese and pickle sandwich.

I was so fed up I got up and reported it to the management that came back with me and asked the couple to leave. Not only that we were given two free tickets for any film shown at the cinema at any time. It pays to complain.

How much cinema tickets are I'm surprised people use their phones in there. It's be cheaper to sit in the pub.

Do you know I really think people are so used to watching a screen they actually forget those are real people up on the stage. Talking in the cinema is just selfish and very annoying.

Well we've been and no outbreaks of violence occurred. It was really good, very imaginative staging too. Lots of school parties and many oohs and aahs therefrom. A wonderful fall of snow all over the audience, quite magical really. Our group thought it was great. This not a scary version, I believe there is more of that in the RSC version. Rhys Ifans played his part very well.
