ITV’s new drama series Next Of Kin will premiere on Monday January 8th at 9pm.
Next Of Kin follows whip-smart GP Mona Shirani who lives in London with political lobbyist husband Guy Harcourt. Family life is shattered when Mona’s brother is brutally murdered whilst working for a medical charity abroad.
As the death brings buried secrets to light, Mona’s family finds itself under suspicion, each drawn deep into a tangle of betrayal and conspiracy as they try to protect their loved ones and careers.
The drama series stars Archie Panjabi and Jack Davenport.

I thought this got off to a good start.....although I had trouble working out who all the extended family members were at first. It did become clearer as the episode went on though.
Can anyone tell me what I might have seen the actor playing the murdered brother in? His face was so familiar and yet I couldn't pin down why.

So what was the doctor/brother up to at his clinic. It would seem very unlikely that someone running a charity clinic in Pakistan would be targeted for no reason whatsoever and he did say he was going somewhere before the airport. The police did ask his sister if she knew how much money he raised for the clinic. More to be revealed here I think. And his son who is out in Pakistan and already knew his father was dead, was he involved in the execution. Does he know what his father was up to?? All very interesting.

I quite enjoyed the first episode but I also found the exact relationship of all those family members rather confusing!

Same here - not a bad start, but confusing array of relatives. I agree the murdered brother was up to something, and his son obviously wasn't just taking a break from uni. Also the mother/grandmother is somehow involved - she knew her grandson's new phone number when none of the others did. Intriguing.

‘Murdered Brother’ but is he?
Good start to this new drama and great to see ‘Kalinda’, back on TV.

Good point, that video could easily have been a fake.

Well it moved on but not at any great pace. I wonder why the family are surprised the police have questions, especially when they are so intelligent and apparently on first name terms with ministers. I mean even if they worked in a factory they would expect the police to ask questions. I have a terrible feeling this may peter out into a melange of unexplained story lines a bit like that one the other year where the husband had been under cover for more than 18 years!!!

I am confused. Are we supposed to feel some sympathy for this nephew Danny? It seems he is in a pickle of his own making to me.

Your suspected terrorist nephew asks you for £12k to get him out of his self-inflicted pickle (or perhaps cons you into funding terrorism). Would anyone in their right mind decide to do an online BACS transfer to Lahore. That won't raise any red flags, will it Mona? The security forces are already all over your family! And she uses her husband's business acount so he gets hauled in for questioning. What an idiot.

That was the final straw with this programme for me. Earlier we saw Mona in hospital, barely conscious after being shot in the stomach, then in seemingly no time at all, she's walking around with her mother, flying home and generally behaving as though she has suffered no more than a scratch. The dialogue appeared to suggest this had all happened in the space of a week. I won't be bothering with it any more - have deleted my series record. Yet another series that started well and then gets silly. I'm all for suspending disbelief but there are limits!

It's all gone a bit bonkers now, so we are to believe that the police would let a known terrorist suspect who has been smuggled into the country just get back in the van in the hope that he'll get in touch and tell them where and when the target is. What happens if it is one hour later and they already had all the explosives in the van!!!!! Also there were a lot of people in that café and not a lot of vehicles in the car park. You would be suspicious straight away!!

Quite frankly I am surprised he hasn't moved out and taken the son with him. He is remarkably tolerant or what else would you call it?
