Sat through this, but was glad I also had a newspaper on my lap to read during the boring bits.
It was ably hosted by Miranda Hart, but although I am a fan, sadly she was encouraged to witter on for over fifteen minutes at the beginning, which made you want to shout "Just get on with it!"
There were the usual acrobats, and a comedian who I've never heard of, but who seemed to think that anything was funny as long as he shouted it. Later, he was shown how to entertain properly by Jason Manford. I enjoyed Alfie Boe and Michael Ball, plus the tap dancing cast of "42nd Street," but the rest of it was not very entertaining.
Bet Prince Charles is glad he can pass this on to Prince William to endure, now.

I've watched this every year since I was a kid but this was possibly the worst. There were a couple of highlights, The Killers and Ball & Boe, Jason Manford was ok, but that was it. There doesn't seem to be as much variety. There's always a couple of musicals, a pop/rock group, solo singers and comedians but that's it, there's one or two speciality acts but not as many as in years gone by. Did they have a magician this year? There's way too many advert breaks and I like Miranda, lovely show, but Miranda Hart and all just didn't work as the host. It needed a more standard comedian/ song and dance person, in years gone by it's been Des O'Connor and Bruce Forsyth, Manford would have been better or Bradley Walsh, something more standard.
The shouty comedian was Tom Allen, Ive seen him on 8 Puts Outs Of 10 Cars Does Countdown and he was really good, but I did find him very shouty on this.

There was a "Mind Reader" who came across as rather amateur, maybe nerves got to him, but his final trick was impressive.
We liked the tribute to Sir Bruce Forsythe, which was well done, and was appropriate as he will be forever associated with the show.

I think they need to show more of the acts, the show was on for 2hrs 40mins, but when you see the line up at the end you're thinking "well I never saw them perform" and it's because their performance has been cut, probably due to time, and that time being used to a load of ad breaks. During the ads I started to play a new app on my phone and so it was a bit in the background. I just wish it was a bit more like years ago. Ahh nostaligia.

I haven't watched it for years, but when I was young it was a major event in the TV calendar - the whole family would cluster round the box to watch and all the acts would be household names. Probably I'm losing touch, but now I'm lucky if I've even heard of half of them.
Perhaps it's struggling to get noticed, now that we have charity juggernauts (Children in Need, Comic Relief, Sport Relief) with public involvement and weeks of build-up?
