ITV tonight, 7.30pm.
Not being able to have a dog myself (apart from my cuddly toy corgi, Cromwell) I'm a sucker for other people's. I shall be interested to see how Labradors get on, because IIRC at the last Crufts they said they'd been knocked off the number one spot on the official list of the Country's most popular breed. They're still my favourites, anyway!

I watched it last night and IMO it was a load of cobblers! At least half of the 'breeds' were crossbreeds that have been produced on puppy farms and given a fancy name so that the farmers can charge ridiculous amounts for them.
There was very little info on the dogs and some of the owners featured were so stupid I wanted to punch their heads in. Especially the poor English bulldog. His owner said she has to carry him upstairs cos he's lazy. No! It's cos he's in too much pain from his hips and elbows! You could tell how badly configured they were just by looking at them. And he constantly went under her coffee table to scratch his back. 'Oh he's so stupid, he'll do that for hours' she said. So.... not cos he has a skin condition and the itch is driving him mad, then?

Only just finished watching this - it was so long that it took us three sessions!
Enjoyed it in the main, but agree that some of the owners were pretty besotted. It's always difficult to agree with the final placing in any "Top 100" or whatever, because it's all down to how the figures are arrived at. Plus I agree that some of them were "artificial" breeds which have been invented just to make money by breeders. Every time they showed one of them Mr Delia shouted "Mongrels!" at the TV!
Couldn't argue with the the final winner, though, as I adore Labs. (And I loved the football playing dog, too!)

I was delighted to see labs getting the number one spot. Ours is a labrador family. I'm not sure how popularity was judged. Was it on a simple 'vote for your favourite' basis? I assume it can't be numerical; despite their iconic status (helped by their popularity with Our Own Dear Queen, even though she has just the one, now, and three dorgis) I understand corgis are in sharp decline. Most of the crossbreeds I'd never heard of. There's a cockerpoo who's a well-known local character who is full of fun, although I think my favourite local dogs are currently a pair who have become regulars at the pub I go to: one a fully-grown Newfoundland, the other a Westie puppy!

I like labs as well but I admit I did shout at Ben Fogle 'put that dog on a diet!' He of all people ought to know what a flabrador looks like.
