OMG!!!! CBS are reviving Murphy Brown!!!!
I loved this show. I think they're saying it's in response to Will & Grace and Rosanne doing new episodes on other networks. Diane English is writing with Cardice Bergen starring in the title role again. I don't think there's any word on Jim Dial (Charles Kimbrough), Frank Fontana (Joe Regalbuto), Corky Sherwood-Forrest (Faith Ford) and Miles Silverberg (Grant Shaud) returning, but I would love to see at least a few of them back...MILES! They did they together on the 25th anniversary but that was for a photoshoot/Q&A rather than 13 new episodes.
Unfortunatley, Eldin the decorator (Robert Pastorelli), Phil the barman (Pat Corley) and Jerry Gold, Murphy's ex-husband (Jay Thomas) can't return, but maybe Peter Hunt (Scott Bakula) could. And if they bring Murphy's son back I wonder if they'll get Haley Joel Osment back, he played the role before Sixth Sense was a glint in his eye!
It could do well in America, because when it originally aired it was quite successful, it won numurous awards (the Emmy award in Murphy's office was a real Emmy award for the show or actress, it wasn't a prop) including for guest star for Martin Sheen, it also ran for 10 seasons the same as Friends. But unlike Friends, Will & Grace and Rosanne, it didn't get the same international audience, at least not in this country (BBC2 showed MB very late at night and Sky then showed it at lunch times in the 90's, which is when I watched it, and evening repeats)
Dan Quayle once referenced the show in a political speech...MB then went on to reference his reference to them!
It's weird because I was only thinking about the show the other day along with Wings as two shows that they should revive. Wings might be a bit of a problem because Tony Shaloub is in The Marvelous Miss Maisel and Tim Daly is currently doing Madam Secretary on ABC and Wings is a CBS show.
(...There's actually some videos on Youtube called The Daly Show that Tim does with his son Sam, and one of them has Steve Weber (who played his brother on Wings) come back and say if CBS ever wanted to revive the show they'd signed a contract to say they'd do it!...as long as they're still alive! We then see Daly try to kill Weber! Watch from 2mins in.
)
Another good thing about a possible revival of MB is the release of DVD's! I have the first season, but they never released anymore. I read it might have been to do with music licencing, Murphy was a big motown fan and every episode had a motown song in it. A complete boxset is way overdue. At least Wings are on DVD...I know because I have them all, mwahhhhh!
