It wasn't that long ago that I discovered how great scrambled eggs are in the microwave, so I'm wondering what else I'm unaware of!
All hints, tips and ideas on how to get the most from a microwave gratefully received!

Mashed potato and you don't even have to peel the spuds!

Grab a clean spud, stab a couple of times, bung in microwave, zap for 5mins or so depending on power, grab a potatoe ricer, cut spud in half or thirds pop in ricer, squeeze and voila mash and the skin stays in the ricer.

Yes Dee, about the poppadums,Ive also done that for years with the plain flat ones so do you use them or the ones already puffed up which I see on the shelves. This method is so quick(1 min ! )and useful when cooking for one I mostly use Microwave for reheating also for heating serving plate on a type of rubber mat for this purpose bought years ago in that huge outlet which I recall only sold polybags long, long ago

I have the prepackaged porridge every morning - pour into bowl, add milk to the mark on the packet, stir. Microwave for 2 mins. Add sprinkled walnut pieces on top and serve - no pan to wash up, either!
Mr Delia throws a couple of measured handfuls of raw p. oats into a plastic jug, adds milk and microwaves for a couple of minutes for his version!
We use ours all the time for scrambled eggs (great with a little grated cheese added!) And quickly baked potatoes.
If we have a roast, I cheat to have some stuffing on the side of my plate by using half of a packet of bought stuffing mix, with the stipulated amount of boiling water added, & put into a small greased dish and microwaved on half power for three minutes. Saves room in your oven when it's full already with meat and roasters!
A quick pudding is rub some butter into flour with a little sugar, and use to top some fruit for a super quick crumble. We use pre cooked fruit from the freezer, any kind works well. It microwaves well - just keep an eye on it but remember that it won't go brown like it does in the oven! - though you can make it look better by sprinkling brown sugar on the top.

If you want to 'freshen up' your microwave after cooking anything smelly, or its just got a bit grubby, you can refresh it by putting in a mug of water with a good squirt of lemon juice in it, and bringing it to the boil - leave it in there for a while before taking it out so that the steam gets to coat the walls. You can also use a half a lemon in some water for this.

To make a microwaved meal look more tasty, I use a cooks' blowtorch. Sprinkle brown sugar over sweety things, and treat like a crème brulee. Comes up nice and brown and crunchy. For savouries, sprinkle finely grated cheese on top, give it a blast, and that cheers it up no end.

I'm just posting because on the front page all I see is Micorwave Cooking baby. Maxi wipes out. While I'm here, though, Maxi, nice tips, but if you need to make a microwave meal look more tasty, should you not perhaps try another type of microwave meal.

I very seldom cook in the microwave - tends to be just in times of emergency. something from the freezer. I prefer to cook conventionally with fresh ingredients. Tends to finish up tasting the way I like it, and usually looks good too!
