I'm watching the Highlights of yesterday. And the BBC are really annoying. Less chat, more golf!
And another thing, the PTB need to start restricting what kinds of clubs can be used as players are now driving ridiculous distances and it's taking a lot of the fun of watching. This first day seem to have been 'drive - put, drive - put, drive - put'. It's tedious.
I hope the wind picks up. But then they will all just complain that it's too hard.

Not a golfer then Miranda? Please don't start a campaign for a sport I do not think you play. Golf is fine as it is if you can appreciate the skills involved. I for one one would not like a "golf lite" for the casual golf viewer. Your a cricket buff I believe, do you prefer 20/20 over the 5day game?

Ermmmm.... yes I have played a bit. And I've watched for years. And not sure how golf as it is now equates to Test cricket. Your analogy doesn't work. It's the wrong way up.
And any game where the players finish with such high scores for not that much effort is a game that needs refining. You may enjoy watching target golf. I don't.

Sorry to have an opinion that differs to yours. My analogy was clumsy , I agree. There is little enough live golf on terrestrial tv for us addicts to watch these days and as an old golfer who still plays 2/3 times a week I would not like changes to be made at the behest of the casual observer. Golf, even in my playing days, has undergone many major changes in equipment.
A better analogy might be football, as someone who played with a leather ball and boots that got heavier in the wet by the minute I can enjoy the way skilled players can bend the ball and also throw it miles. Not thegame I was used to but I would not seek change in football as I only watch once in awhile I think your "target" remark has more to do do with the coverage provider, there is still much skill in golf , especially around the greens and from 80yards in. Just an "old golfers" opinion so be gentle with me. Your point about high scores I find at at odds with the game, the lowest score produces the Champion Golfer.

When I said high scores that what I meant. To say low scores sounds odd. And possibly it is just the coverage. But when you see a player drive a ball nearly 400 yards and then take two putts, that's not down to him so much as his equipment.
I would compare golf to Formula 1. It's the bloke with the best equipment that wins.
And don't think I didn't notice the sarcasm, either! It's a shame I'm not allowed an opinion without you talking to me like I'm a fool.
And I'm off as we won't agree.

Wow!!! Have we met before? You are no fool but obviously very touchy. You are at odds with the golfing world in thinking high scores are best but please carry on.

Just keep the tone civil and polite ,and everyone will be happy.
Calling people touchy is not polite.

A great afternoon for The Open. Two top golfers battling it out on a top links course and good weather. Nice to see our home grown hope Johnston playing so well and able to interact with the crowds, golf can be played with a smile, had forgotten that.

Fantastic finish to The Open. I count myself lucky to have witnessed not only "the duel in the sun" from1977 when Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus slugged it out but to see todays brilliant finish with two excellent players play our game with such skill and dare I say politeness to each other in the highest traditions of the game of golf. Sorry to be an "old fart" but I love my sport.

Now the dust has settled what do people think of Sky's coverage of their first "Open". I am not a subscriber but watched on Skygo, a gift from a grandson. I missed some of the traditional BBC ways, I am a Peter Alliss fan but overall I felt Sky did a good job.
