Not sure how many football fans there are on here, but if you want to discuss the play etc, then this is the place .
(But it is not the place to moan about any programming disruption, just saying)
Be interesting to see how many actually have an interest.

Its 16-1 for England to lift the trophy and money back if they go out on penalties. Still wouldnt back them. It will be one of the usual suspects....but not Italy of course....

The story in one newspaper is that, depending on how they come through the group stages, England could face either Brazil or Germany in the quarter finals.

Spain have sacked head coach Julen Lopetegui after he was named the new Real Madrid boss, two days before their opening World Cup match with Portugal.

It really wasn't surprising. He had just signed a new contract with the Spanish Football Association in May, it would have taken him up to 2020. It was incumbent upon him to tell his employer that he was in talks which could affect that contract, but no, the Spanish were only told five minutes before the announcement.

Enjoying the opening match after a short - but colourful and tuneful - opening ceremony.
Russia 3 Saudi 0 with 30 minutes to go.
I would love the England team to do well without the burden of the jingoist press - who this year are writing them off. Be ironic if this was they year they made the final stages....

To save time. Here is are the results of a computer simulation of the competition (the whole competition was run through 100,000 times); the percentages are probabilities of the winning team at any point getting through.
You can now sit back and watch whatever you want without having to worry about your team's performance, if there is anything else, other than football to watch. I have a large number of dvds, and Amazon Prime videos set up to watch.

I should of course have known 5Live would be OTT and stayed away, every time I listened this morning, Rachel Burden, bless her, was getting more and more worked up - reminded me of a child at a party, I started worrying about what might happen next She would keep saying it was 'the greatest show on earth'... no it's not! I decided to award myself 50p everytime she talked about a team being 'a surprise package' and I already have enough for a reasonable treat Before that there was Robbie Savage for half an hour.... oh dear All I need to hear now is that Alan Green is going to be commentating and my joy will be complete Ok, rant over... I'm really sorry I can't feel the enthusiasm I used to - but I have picked a team to cheer for: Iceland

There has been praise for the punditry of Gary Neville on ITV during the opening match. I agree 5live gets carried away - there is a high % of the UK population who would not watch football if it was being played in their garden - but having sent Rachel out there they have to keep up the hype.

Iceland today - and a shout out to Motherwell FC who introduced the Thunder Clap to a visiting Iceland side some years ago.
Yes, Iceland have polished and perfected it - but it began in Scotland.
