Why do the South American teams have to cheat? When they play properly, they're good. So why do they feel the need to play dirty?
I breathed a sigh of relief last night, but not going so far as some locals here singing "Football's comong home!" at the tops of their voices.

Well, woulda thunk it - the mighty Brazil are out at quarter-final stage! Belgium are looking quite formidable - and that's just their goalie...

Wonderful second goal from Belgium - but what a shock to see Brazil go out. They played better in the last 20 minutes than they had for the whole match.

Think most of us are thinking of the old, unbeatable Brazil - in fact all of the old South American teams. The England team isn't made up of the same players as in the past and neither are they.

As is the case with rugby, often a whole lot of players retire at the same time - and the managers have to start from scratch.

From reading other sites, Neymar has put a lot of people off Brasil. The team is built around him and he's a nasty cheating little drama queen. He also lost them a penalty and a good chance at goal by diving in the box in the last game. Ref so sick of him he just waved him away.

A lot of Brazilians don't like him; they feel he is playing for himself, too much. This article from before Neymar left Brazil is telling. It is generally agreed that he is very spoiled, and has been allowed to get away with too much:
“This guy disrespected the coach and team mates in public and still is protected by the Santos FC directors. We are creating a monster in Brazilian football, we have to teach manners to this guy. He is not a star, it is only a projection of star and he needs to understand his limits ...”
The problem is that teams don't get this, and are willing to pay stupid money to get his services, only to discover what he is like. He has always been like that. People just need to learn to say no to him.
The problem is that when he wants to be, he can be amongst the best.

I think that's what annoys so many people - he's a fantastic footballer. And when he wants to play he's wonderful to watch. But he's such a nasty little person that it leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
