This is a musical about a lesbian looking back on her childhood (in a funeral home, hence the title) and coming out as a student. It has come over from New York. I thought it was pretty good, although I don't reckon it really warrants the five star reviews it got. It is the story of cartoonist Alison Bechdel and the actress playing the adult was a dead ringer for Sue Perkins; the actress playing student Alison sounded exactly like a very stressed Owen Wilson; young Alison was terrific. It was performed extremely well and the audience went wild. In fact it got a proper standing ovation! I couldn't see a thing then so had to join in, lol.
The mother was played by Michelle from Eastenders!!!!! So she landed a proper, good stage role after leaving and she sang really well.
It only runs until September but given the reviews, the reception and the pedigree I reckon it will tour or maybe go into the West End.
