It's a bit of a curiosity. Probably best taken lightly. It's the kind of thing Clive James would have had a field day with when he reviewed tv. It perked up for me when Citizen Khan appeared! He reminds me of Peter Sellars doing his Asian Doctor in the early 60s. The cook from Downton looks like she's substituting for something Julie Walters might have been offered and the hero reminds me of Alexander Armstrong made up for a Brabbins and Fyffe sketch with Ben Miller. Thank goodness we've been spared Julie Walters!

I started to watch episode three but have given up as it just seemed very flat. Not even the lovely Gregory could keep me interested!

Still watching, but I'm not finding Gregory Fitoussi very convincing as a French army General. He's romancing Julia Stiles in Riviera (Sky Atlantic) at the moment, in a much more suitable role.

I did catch up on it last night. Not convinced I will keep up with it once Poldark starts

Still not convinced but love the scenery, lighting and costumes. All that fuss about the baby's first food ceremony and then he's (the lead) is only there for 2 minutes. After all of the build up I was expecting something more to happen. I know they are trying to show us the culture but it could flow so much better. It could have been such a lovely touching moment and one that helped build a bridge with the mother.
I can't figure out the servants motives, is she just deluded or is there a point to her seduction of the brother.

My Mr Delia has given up on this now, so I record it and then watch it alone. Love the way things are easily overcome: if you're trying to steal a priceless artefact, and there's a lock on the door, just look down at your feet and you'll find a handy stone just the right size for picking up and breaking in....
The mother is getting on my nerves.... Perhaps she's ill now from taking the meds bought in the market.
Beverley, I thought that the girl had decided the brother of her employer was the best bet to secure a good future. Obviously not a good judge of character, as he'll desert her now he's had his wicked way with her.
Love the scenery and costumes, but what a clunky script.

Opium addicts get very itchy skin when they don't get a fix.

Alcoholics get itchy too. Liver problems, apparently.

It was better last night because finally we are getting some of the story about the characters. Scenery as usual stunning. It is the script that is letting it down. People have snap shot conversations despite living under the same roof but at least they are filling in some of the gaps now.

I have completely given up on it. It may be getting a bit better, but it is too little too late. The script is just not good enough.

I agree about the script. Also the scenes seem to me somehow disconnected, and don't flow well from one to another - at times it's almost like a stage play, where of necessity you get a slight hiatus as one set of characters exits and the next lot enter.
However it's entertaining enough that I'll keep watching. An interesting dilemma John was put in over the diamond - he seems to be in a no win situation (which was perhaps the intention).
Unless I missed something, I don't believe his explanation to family and friends really addressed the issue of Chandrika visiting his room - if I were Margaret I'd still be very suspicious!

Yes that wouldn't have gone down as convincing in my house as they have plenty of time to talk to each other outside of his bedroom. Especially as nobody really talks to each other or seemingly spends a lot of time with each other.
Also wasn't sure why the Maharaja didn't just kill his brother or at least try to. Now it would seem the child is in more danger than before.
But the script is unforgivable.

I thought I had missed some vital point over that because I didn't see how that was an explanation of her visit to his room....and yet Miss Osborne seemed to accept it. I wouldn't have!
