Another Nordic Noir centred on a female detective, from Finland this time and with a bit of a different flavour - foreign connections seem to be with Germany rather than the Scandinavian countries, though this may be due to it being a Finnish/German co-production.
Detective Sofia Karppi - recently widowed and coping with grieving children, the elder of which is her German stepdaughter - returns to work and the case of a woman's body found on a construction site. I'm enjoying this increasingly as I get into it - so far watched 5 of the 12 episodes. A second series starts filming next year.

Watched all 12 now. There's enough red herrings to sustain an entire fishing fleet. If you guess the perp, you're doing really well - and if you guess why, you must be psychic.
Having said that, I like the main characters, if not the constantly frozen landscape (Nordic blanc?), and will watch series 2.

Just to say - the current issue of RT makes this one of their 10 streaming picks, saying "... this Finnish series isn't groundbreaking, but is crisp and classy enough to please genre addicts ... The measured pace and sensitive character drama go well with shots of Helsinki looking glamorously gloomy."

Finished S2. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as S1. The personal side of it I found less engaging - and the police side went from being rather run-of-the-mill to, by the last couple of episodes, ridiculously improbable.
