This is the Tony award-winning Broadway production over in London till the end of September.
It was wonderful!! So emotional, I was welling up.... and I have never been a fan of the film at all. But all these old musicals have a lot more heart on stage than in those technicolour movies, IMVHO.
The three female leads - Anna, the Head Wife, Tuptim - had exquisite soprano voices. (We were all comparing this very favourably with the voices in Dreamgirls which seems to have had a lasting impact on our group!) Ken Watanabe, who is apparently a huge star in Japan, was good as the King but his voice does have a bit of the Pearce Brosnan to it!
Our group all loved it as did the audience. The theatre was packed. Great stuff.

I have just read that this production (new leads) is going on tour starting next week in Manchester. It is quite a wide ranging tour and if you are wondering whether or not to go, I would recommend it.
