Spotted Alan Bennett's new book ," Keeping on keeping on",in the supermarket on Tuesday. Thought about buying it, but in the end didn't. It was the first thing I saw on the New Books shelf in the library on wednesday. I do love his diaries.

By my bedside is Kevin Joslin's Run, John, Run, the second collection of the hilarious Radio 2 'Janet and John' stories.
The book in my bag at the moment - the one I read during work breaks - is Terry Pratchett's Small Gods. It's been years since I last read it, and I've never liked it as much as many of the Discworld books, so it'll be interesting to see how I get on.

Found a copy of Wolf Hall on the charity table in a local supermarket. I am enjoying it all the more this time, perhaps because having watched it on tv, I can visualise it in more detail.

Just finished The Spook Who Spoke Again, a short story by Lindsey Davis (a comic spin-off from her 'Falco' and 'Flavia Albia' series). Now moved on to fact with To Walk in the Dark: Military Intelligence in the English Civil War, 1642-1646, by John Ellis.

The book on my kindle that I'm reading at the moment is 'Jennie' by Paul Gallico. All about the life of a cat. 'When in doubt - wash' seems to be the mantra!

Apparently there is a series in development, although Lindsey is being pretty tight-lipped about it. A few years back the BBC were going to make a series but ended up buying a ready-made one instead (which I think was Rome). In 1993 a movie of The Silver Pigs was made, but jettisoned most of the plot, characters etc, including the title (it became Age of Treason), for which reason she had publicly disowned it. I think that bad experience is one reason she has been reluctant to release the rights for adaptations.

Just been on my hols, and read "Dear Fatty" by Dawn French - funny in parts, but quite moving, too.
Then "Diana, A Closely Guarded Secret" by her ex detective bodyguard. Revealing, and an inside view on her relationships.
Also read "There's something I've been Dying to Tell You" by the late Lynda Bellingham - A scary description of what it's like to have a cancer diagnosis and treatment. Thought provoking stuff.
Then for light relief, "Sweet, Thoughtful Valentine" by Alexander McCall Smith -- excellent.

I am reading Berlin Noir, about a detective in pre war Berlin, very Chandleresque and right now I just can't remember the author. Good though.
