Doesn't have to be something you carry around with you, could be by your bed/chair/desk.... but I am totally bereft if I find I haven't got something to read in cafes, on buses etc
I've started re-reading 44 Scotland Street, I really enjoy McCall Smith's books... and this time I'm imagining Bidie might suddenly appear

Absolutely the same here.
Current book is Summertime Death by Mons Kallentoft. Second book in his Malin Fors series.

Me too. Currently reading the new Harry Potter (a chapter or two at bedtime) and carrying around David Mitchell's The Thousand Autumns of Jacob De Zoet. It's...okay. Hardly gripping.

Just now it's a Kathy Reich (Tempe Brennan) could be a Jonathen Kellerman or his wife or son also Patricia Cornwell. Better mention a Brit, Val Mcdairmid.......and many more American authors

I love Jonathan Kellerman's books, Alex and Milo are terrific creations IMHO. I liked his son's debut but not the second and only tried one of his wife's but couldn't get into it. I am currently reading The Disappeared by Kristina Ohlsson (sp?, it is upstairs so cannot check!) which is pretty good.

I have just reread all of the Harry Bosch books (Michael Connelly) and waiting for the latest to get into the library. Would never watch the TV version, the pictures are in my head. I am now rereading all Elvis Cole (& Joe Pike) books (Robert Crais) I have read all of my own books and am now ordering the rest from the library. Would absolutely recommend these.

Farewell to Burracombe by Lilian Harry. I love her books. A lot of them are based in the Portsmouth/Southampton area, especially the WWII ones.
The one I'm reading at the moment is the last in the series. They're based in a fictional Devon village in the 1950s.
I discovered her by chance a couple of years ago when looking for a holiday read.
Lots of laughter and tears and not too schmaltzy.

I'd never heard of Terry Goodkind until my FB group nominated his Wizard's first rule as our read for November. Not my usual sort of thing at all, but I'm loving it. And at 764 pages, it's long!

I'm reading A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen and even though I know Bob is alive and well, as he plays himself in the current movie, I still get worried and have to read ahead when disaster looms! I have just ordered the sequel... and I am not a pet person so Bob must have something about him!

I read 'Girl on the Train' by Paula Hawkins whilst on holiday last week. I enjoyed it and the descriptions of how drinking can affect lives was very convincing. I can see how this was made into a film and will look forward to seeing the interpretation.

Now onto The Hippopotamus Pool by Elizabeth Peters. An Amelia Peabody mystery. Set in Egypt, to do with archeology. Very entertaining.

I always have a book to read during work breaks. Currently Deadly Election by Lindsey Davis, the third in her Flavia Albia series. I always have a book by my bed, too, currently Knight: The Medieval Warrior's Unofficial Handbook by Michael Prestwich!

When I'm off on my travels (have a trip to Leeds this week) I always try to remember to pop my kindle in my bag. At the moment I'm reading Ashley Bell by Dean Koontz. It's totally gripping but real life gets in the way when I'm not travelling!
