I don't know. Never used one. That would drive me mad though.

Maybe google Ipad settings?
I seem to remember having 1 metal dustbin. Everything came wrapped in paper, or in brown bags, none of these trays.

How do these people manage to earn enough for their fabulous homes etc but still be so uninformed and deluded? Throwing way perfectly good veggies every weekend wailing that she has "empty cupboards" when they are rammed full. A stay at home mum but grating cheese is too time consuming? I quite like this family though and I love the dog.

Find him annoying by saying everything is wonderful
She is annoying because she has no idea of the cost of things and thinks money grows on trees.
Not sure which one is the most stupid, can't even tell they are drinking the same tea as always.
And they are intelligent clever people.

One thing about this type of programme is that it makes me feel as if I am Ms. Wonderful in respect of the value for money I get, and the small amount I spend keeping the wolf from my and the cats' door! Gives my self-esteem no end of a boost. Must be an ingrained mindset - I hate waste, and would throw a fit if good food were going into the bin.

I do think that there was a point about the lady's childhood experiences having an effect. I remember empty cupboards and empty tins from my childhood. My twin is a superb cook and she never lets her family go hungry. I do not eat cheese ,garlic, tomatoes nor chilli. I cook from scratch and I know just what goes into my recipes. I wish the family good luck.

I'm with you Maxi. She threw berries out!!! Why on earth couldn't she think of freezing or cooking them? I don't agree with all the swaps though. I was looking at the ingredients of value cream cheese the other day & it has all kinds of added things, would rather pay the extra but it's only something I buy approx once a month or less. I've also noticed that sometimes packed veg is cheaper than loose which is really annoying.

Also thought it odd that we didn't see the other children. I would have loved to have seen how much she threw away in a week.

I am the worst for looking in someone's trolley in the supermarket! Single blokes with speciality frozen meals. But the worst are young families, in poorer areas. Going into Farmfoods, loading up with pies, , pizzas, chicken nuggets etc. I know we didn't get that much out of domestic science classes at school, but, we need to educate ,that you can cook from scratch cheaper than buying this premade road to heart attacks. I taught myself to cook, taught my sons, who both do all the cooking for their families, but these days, there is a whole generation who have been brought up on readymeals, and have no interest in nutrition. Jamie Oliver does his best. This programme is preaching to the "middle class", I don't believe the vast audience of soap watchers will watch it. I agree with all of that. In defence of Farmfoods though, they do have a very good range of frozen basic vegetables and fish portions, for example, so you could make a healthier meal from scratch, in comparison to Iceland, which is all ready meals, pretty much. (Don't get me wrong, I like using fresh ingredients, but frozen isn't always bad and sometimes can hold its vitamins better.)

Yes, I could quite understand that she wanted to be the perfect mummy with a home made cake waiting everyday and giving the children whatever they wanted with plenty of choice but at the start of the programme before they went shopping she was exclaiming that the cupboards were empty when they clearly were very full. I keep a full larder and freezer too but I am not deluded into thinking they are empty.

I think more should be made in this programme about the electric/gas economies to be made by cooking a batch of a particular item and freezing in portion size the additional quantity for later consumption. Things like Bolognese sauce, various stews and casseroles freeze very well, and involve quite a lot of cooking time/cost.

I agree about the economy aspect. I do think that basic ingredients should be used but cheap versions of some foods are stuffed with chemiclas and you need a degree in chemistry to figure the elements out. We are blinded by science and who knows just how safe production processes are in foreign countries with bad reputations for cleanliness and knowing the source of their ingredients. Look at the Horse Meat scandal . That is just one of several. When something is stated on the label ,it does not mean that the statement is true. We just take it that it is. I hate throwing food away and I have seen that there is a competition to win prizes by entering a competition on loveyourfoodcaddy.com. I saw this on the side of a recycling collection lorry today.

There are food safety regulations in place to ensure that all labelling is correct, and all produce sold in the UK is safe to eat,no matter where it comes from.
What always amuses and baffles me is when you hear a percentage figure of what foodstuffs are thrown away, how do they know?

Quite often with these type of shows children of the 'teens and over' variety frequently opt-out . Enough embarrassment for all their friends to know it's their family on the program, quite another to put up with all the flack that would inevitably follow if they appeared themselves , I guess . I know that my two would be mortified
