DMAX is going free-to-air. The Discovery owned and operated entertainment channel, which has been part of Discovery Networks UK’s pay portfolio for more than a decade, will launch on Freeview (channel number 42) on January 16th.
With the move DMAX joins Discover Networks UK’s portfolio of FTA channels that also includes Quest, Quest Red and Food Network. Per Discovery, the channel “invites viewers into a world of fresh entertainment which indulges hobbies and passions through big personalities, blending wild adventure, and life off the grid with smart comedy and entertainment”.
The launch on Freeview will bring with it a number of FTA premieres including Goblin Works Garage, Naked And Afraid, Life Below Zero and Man Vs Food. To bolster the entertainment schedule, DMAX has also acquired FX’s animated spy comedy Archer in a deal with international distributor Endemol Shine International. This marks the latest deal that Endemol Shine has concluded for the show, following the previous licensing agreements with Netflix UK (first window) and Viceland UK.
“DMAX is the new entertainment destination in free to air television,” said Simon Downing, Senior Vice-President and Head of Factual and Sport. “Fun, engaging, and risk-taking DMAX is bringing an exciting new breadth of content to viewers, from turbo to extreme lives and adventure. Added to that we will be offering the best in entertainment, including cult adult animated cartoon series Archer. We’re hugely excited to be offering this unique mix of content in the free-to-air market.”
