It’s not Tinker Tailor, but it is beautifully directed with great atmosphere and fair attention to period detail. I like the sort of story exposition that doesn’t rely on dialogue to get its point across. After all, that’s what TV and film should be. You need to pick up on behavioural subtleties, not have it spelt out - rather like actually what spies do.
I often find 4ep+ series tediously slow, without proper dramatic justification, but this one includes enough tension building and the usual clue-dropping required of spy stories, so that you’re driven to decide whether one person, two persons or the whole lot of them are playing for the other side. It’s well titled, being about class traitors, as well as the usual Cold War ideologues. I suppose the MeToo thread is inevitable, but it doesn’t bash you over the head.
I just watched the first 3 episodes and look forward to the next.
