I saw this yesterday at Wimbledon which I think is the first leg of the tour. I didn't really know what to make of it, TBH. There just seemed to be something missing to me, and I think that was because I saw it when it first came out in London and was really struck by the show, even buying the record! And it packed such a punch at the end, I can remember everyone gasping when Claude comes back on, and of course the draft was a really hot issue. To me, all of that was missing! BUT, it was executed with enthusiasm by the cast, most of the singing was good and most of the audience seemed to love it.
Very oddly, the star billing has been given to Jake Quickendon and Marcus Collins who play Berger and HUD, but the chap playing the lead of Claude isn't mentioned on the posters! And he has the best voice and the main narrative.
Now I don't remember Berger spending the first ten or so minutes in a thong, but Jake Q prances round giving us a good view if his impressive physique. Unfortunately he somehow reminded me of Ali G and he had a very odd way of singing too. He sort of shouts the first word of a line and sings the rest a bit quieter. The female singers were pretty good, and the small band who sit onstage throughout were very good.
There were people standing and cheering at the end, so maybe it was just not the show for me. We did get the famous nude scene (albeit very dimly lit at the back of the stage) and there was dancing on the stage afterwards..... but such is the passage of time, I had to go for my bus home!
