This five-part miniseries brings to life the true story of the unprecedented man-made tragedy, and the brave men and women who made incredible sacrifices to save Europe from unimaginable disaster.
Starts Tuesday at 9pm. Sounds harrowing but a definite watch for me.

Definitely a must-see. Sadly, I don't get Sky Atlantic

This five-part miniseries brings to life the true story of the unprecedented man-made tragedy, and the brave men and women who made incredible sacrifices to save Europe from unimaginable disaster. Starts Tuesday at 9pm. Sounds harrowing but a definite watch for me. It is harrowing, especially knowing what is going to happen to everybody. The ignorance and stupidity of some of the people in charge at the plant, in denial about what was going on; giving their bosses bad information, leading to a lack of urgency and seriousness just when it is most needed.
If you get the chance, and if you can stand this sort of thing, it is worth the watch; but you really want to weep.

First episode was riveting, though utterly horrific. It's well made and definitely one to stick with.

Episode 2 excellent as well. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen, despite the gruesome horror of it all.
Trivia note: Emily Watson has joined the cast for episode 2, and Stellan Skarsgård has a major part. Those two played the leads in the earliest of Emily's work that I've seen - the film Breaking the Waves (1996).

Denial is a terrible thing. When you don't want to believe what is really going on, so you grab hold of anything that will keep you from having to face the truth. It doesn't help that they don't really understand what is going on, and want to protect the image of the country, so you mustn't tell anybody, even though they know that there is something going on, and you cannot hide it. You felt sorry for the firemen in the first episode, and the nurses in the second who were doomed from the start. They didn't know what was going on, and even if they did ...

This is the most terrifying thing I've watched in a long time. Even more scary because its true. My heart went out to the three 'volunteers' at the end.

They really make sure that you understand the effects of massive doses of radiation are, both short and long term. Having to ask people to do terrible things, and because of the madness of politics in the death throes of the Soviet Union, you understand the actions of Legasov that we saw at the beginning of the first episode. They really didn't want you to know.

Totally gripping but totally horrifying in equal measures.

Totally gripping but totally horrifying in equal measures. I agree.
This is a terrific series - superbly made and absolutely mesmerising. And it isn't just us that think so - the imdb user rating is currently 9.6, which if it persists will be the highest ever (it's currently No. 2, behind Planet Earth II).

I decided not to watch it because it terrifies me, and life is too short to be terrified. My son keeps telling how good it is.

It is astonishingly good and also terrifying, especially when you see how close they came to an even bigger global disaster than it already was and the amount of self sacrifice that was required from all initial responders and the liquidators ( 500k of them).

It is consistently good, but bleak.
