I saw that on Twitter. Has someone committed suicide or something?

Apparently a guest failed a lie detector test and then committed suicide.

Oh dear lord! Those lie detector tests are complete nonsense anyway. Thought I doubt Kyle will feel any responsibility for it. Hopefully this show won't be back.

Apparently it was the man's idea to go on the show because he was adamant that he had not been unfaithful and was sure that the test would prove it, he loved his partner and want to have evidence that he wasnt lying, he told friends and family that he was confident about the result. The test said he was lying and he killed himself.
Unfortunately this is not the first time a participant has killed himself, it has happened before and I believe the coroner at that inquest said the show was little short of a bear pit with not enough support and counselling for participants and not enough explanation given around these so called tests that are not always accurate. I believe that man's case was around DNA which is usually accurate but in the recent case it was around lie detector.

They should never have used a lie detector on him. He had severe arthritis, and was being treated with morphine. Apparently he decided to take himself off the morphine before the test, which can have serious withdrawal consequences which would include anxiety, giving false readings on a lie detector test. It seems that the programme has a consultant psychologist who really needs to take a very close look at himself. I hope the case is referred to the relevant regulatory body, if only to remind him that his duty of care is to people, and not to the programme.
The programme, itself should simply be taken off the air, completely.

I saw part of one once and was appalled by it. Jeremy Kyle latched onto one persn who he obviously decided was in the right and then went for the others quite viciously.
Accordong to my local BBC rsdio station, they each get paid £500 to appear and for some that's all that matters. I'm afraid that says something about them - thay they'e prepared to air their dirty laundry in public.
I did see one episode which featured the Coronation Street characters Nick Tilsley, David Platt and Tina McInytre, which was entertaining because it was pure fiction. Real life is another matter entirely. It should have been axed long ago.

The only times I have seen this have been when sitting in hospital waiting rooms and I always thought it was appalling. I agree with someone I heard on the radio just now who described as theatre of cruelty. If this is the most popular show on daytime television, averaging a million viewers, I'm afraid it doesn't say much for standards of decency and compassion.

They'll bring back cock fighting next! Truly awful TV.

I detest this show. I hate the very format of it. I actively avoid it if it comes on when I'm at home (on Mondays) by switching over to the other Jeremy - Vine on Channel 5.

If they do continue with this or similar shows they have to make it very clear that these lie detector tests are for entertainment and not reliable.
I just hate the way the hosts of these show goad people and do their best to elicit extreme reactions. Whether the people apply or get paid they are still taken advantage of. Because if they had the capacity to make a decision and weigh up the consequences and make future predictions they would not be there.
I always remember the man that got murdered after he had been on Rikki Lake. That should have been enough to stop the format there and then.

I'd prefer they go back to a Time The Place type show, where you have a small audience who discuss a current news story or issue, putting across both sides. Central Weekend used to be quite good on a Friday night. Usually 2 serious subjects and the last one was something more comical. Jeremy Vine is much better show. Jeremy Kyle is the same thing all the time, Lie detectors and DNA, and using vulnerable people to make the show. Hopefully it'll be replaced with something better.

ITV should snap up Jeremy Vine. He'd get a much wider audience. There's room for people to speak both in the live audience and on the phone without it getting personal.

It seems that Kyle is scared that he will be made a scapegoat. I don't agree with him, but I do think that ITV do need to take a close look at themselves for commissioning this trash in the first place, and allowing it to be broadcast.

Well, Jeremy Kyle does need to recognise that he bears some responsibility in all of this. He has made a living out of this awful programme for years so we have to assume he thinks the format is acceptable.
