I saw about 5 minutes of it once and thought how nasty it was, just people shouting at each other. I never watched it again. I hate this kind of reality programme. I don’t watch either Britain’s got talent, Love Island or Big Brother. Just people trying to be famous and getting damaged in the process

Usually come in towards the end of the likes of Strictly (which is becoming less a dance show and more a stage show programme) and have only watched the ice dancing programme once - didn't know any of the "celebrities" so doubt it'll be watched again. Do watch the professional Masterchef and Great British Menu but have given up on GBBoff deciding the bakes weren't what regular home bakers would make.
Caught about five minutes of a Jerry Springer programme while channel hopping looking for something to watch while ironing - so awful I couldn't contemplate watching the rest of it and never watched another programme. No idea who Trisha Goddard is. Don't watch any other "reality" programme such as BB, I'm a Celebrity, Essex, Love Island or any of that ilk as they're not reality. They're manipulated and it's worrying how easily they encourage generations of 20+ people to become ever more obnoxious and odious in order to be noticed and capture "fame".

There are to be parliamentary, as well as Ofcom, investigations. What with the inevitable inquest, Jeremy Kyle, and ITV, are going to be quite busy -- as are their lawyers.

It does seem odd that it takes something like a suicide to draw attention to the fact that this programme was not 'helping' people, rather the opposite.
I caught the odd five minutes of it in the past, and it was like seeing a car crash in slow motion, not pretty.
Best it's ended now and hopefully, not replaced with something similar.

All the papers seem to be coming out in sympathy with Jeremy, but surely if he had any worries about the show he could have left anytime. The only time I have seen it (in hospital and at my sisters) he seems to be guilty of goading and egging people on and generally making it worse all round, so I have no sympathy at all, just about the same level as a gutter press journo really, no sympathy at all. We all make choices but I've never made one where what I do for a living takes advantage of vulnerable and inexperienced people thrust into the media spotlight. One man on the radio yesterday says that even after years since he was on the show, people still point at him in the street.

I remember reading a long time ago an article by a woman who appeared on the Vanessa Felz show. I can't recall what aspect of her life she was going to discuss, but she thought it would be an open and fair discussion. Then went it went live and Vanessa absolutely tore into her and the audience were booing and jeering; this woman was a nervous wreck at the end. That really surprised me because I would expect that show to be pretty even handed. I wouldn't expect anything of the kind from Jeremy Kyle and I am surprised if participants do expect that. I saw it once when they did a DNA test and I was just so shocked that anything so personal could be revealed on live TV. I mean, why would anyone think that a good idea? It is beyond me.

Would that be the same Vanessa Feltz who I heard criticising The Jeremy Kyle Show in an interview with (I think) Evan Davies the other night?

I’m a bit surprised they didn’t see this coming as it has happened before. I remember Oprah did a show which featured a married couple and his “loser” best friend who was a bad influence on the husband. They pretty much demolished this man and he killed himself about a week later. She then swore off this type of confrontational subject. And someone else has mentioned the murder that resulted from a Ricki Lake show.
Why do they have to learn the hard way?

Money. The Jeremy Kyle Show brought in a lot of advertising revenue for ITV.

A man interviewed on the radio said that he went on for a DNA test because he couldn't otherwise afford one. It did reveal that the man he thought was his father wasn't. He said the show were ok with him and asked him if he wanted to come back on to find out who his real father was. He said no, he just wanted to process everything first, then they rang him a couple of days later to see if he would come back on to do it. But he said no, he said the only man who had acted like a father to him was the man who turned out not to be the father and he wasn't interested in anyone else. He did say he doesn't see much of the man that brought him up. Perhaps sleeping dogs and all that. Poor guy, it was all started by a drunken suggestion from a family member casting doubt on the situation. What he did say is that people still point at him and talk about him when he walking around the area. Their idea of counselling is a couple of hours after the show and a phone number, but some of these people should be followed up long term and even perhaps be asked to give permission to pass on any concerns to their GPs etc. The man seemed rational and lucid but it clearly had a long term effect and he wasn't one of these people looking for fame and a career as a celebrity like the people that do the other reality shows such as Love Island and Geordie Shore etc. There have been two suicides there and lord knows how many family relationships and relationships that have broken down. I knew a young man who went on Geordie Shore and made it clear that he had a fiancée and did not want to have any kind of relationship even a rumoured relationship with one of the women on the show. He left after about a month because he said he was put under constant pressure to try it on with the girls, appear randomly partly undressed in their vicinity, and even asked to pretend to be drunk and get into bed with one of the girls. He is a very confident, good looking man, who incidentally now works in the NHS, and fortunately for him he was confident enough to say no to the producers requests. He did say that they tell them to do these things and imply that they'll get loads more media coverage and be able to get appearance fees and introductions to other celebrities and TV producer, magazine stuff and all the rest. Then of course they dump them like a shot after the show and leave them to cope with the few weeks of fame where they potentially made a right idiot of themselves and did things they wouldn't normally get involved in. So the fame is transitory, the work dries up and they are left to cope with feelings of guilt, embarrassment, shame, and loss of self-esteem. I know we can all do stupid things that embarrass us but generally the only people that know are our families, friends and maybe the half dozen people at the place we embarrassed ourselves. These souls are forever tagged as "Jodie who got her breast out in Newcastle Airport and got arrested!", I didn't want to describe any other antic that the producers persuade these people to do.

I just had a mad thought of some child in 2030 finding out their nana was on Naked Dating and the other children at school finding out!!!!
Long term effects - I think I would feel better if I'd found out my nana was once arrested at a protest rally even for shoplifting!!
