I was watching this on ITV3 and Mark rode his bike to meet Jack and Joe leaving the haverst festival at church to say Mr Wilks has been taken ill and Annie had called an ambulance. They were all waiting around at Emmerdale for news when the phone rang, Joe then informed them that he'd died of a heart attack on the way to hospital.
I was so shocked. With him being such a big character who'd been in the show a long time I was surprised that they hadn't shown him on screen like when Amos was taken ill and him leaving. I then thought maybe it was due to the actor. And unfortunately it was. The actor Arthur Pentelow died of a heart attack returning from his home in Birmingham to Leeds to record Emmerdale, hence him being written out. Very sad.
I always had an image of him in a car with Annie Sugden when the plane crash happened...arhh just watching C5 now (Soaps Most Controversial Storylines) and they've just showed a clip of the plane crash and Joe is driving, which I remembered, Annie in the back, which I remembered, but the older man isn't Henry Wilks but someone else.
