Channel 4 have got hold of the repeats of this years competition that airs on Sky Arts.
Presented by Joan Bakewell and now Stephen Mangan, celebs have their portraits painted by pros and amateurs....3 judges who, sometimes get it wrong but still very knowledgeable, have the final say.
Highly Recommended.

I've just found it and it is fascinating. There's none of the bitchiness from the judges that you get in the BBC version. But it is quite surprising how many people don't know how to sit still.

LOVE it . . . I watch it twice, one after the other. I would be quite worried if I were Tom Jones, the judges pick such bizarre winners. Well, to me they seem to favour the more unusual paintings. There have been loads of artists I would have chosen rather than the ones they picked.
One thing I have noticed is that when the camera is in close-up the portrait seems ok-ish, the resemblance is nearly there but when the same painting is viewed from a distance it's all lost. I think because they are working under such pressure they don't get time to stand back.
I have been "painting" all day and I wish I had a tiny bit of their talent . .

I think it is difficult for us cos we can't see what they can see. So we are most likely missing the effect the painting has.

Catching up with the final and I have to say, the 'unfinished bits' shtick from the young fella is getting old. But then the other two weren't my favourites either. Duncan's paintings look much the same every week, even though they are quite good likenesses. Not even personality for me though.
