Not sure if I'm looking forward to this or not. It's been hyped to death here so I'm hoping it lives up to it.

Well I'm only twenty minutes in, and enjoying it, but I had to pause it after ten to check I was watching episode 1 and not 2!
I've never liked Michael. And now we have Tommy foreseeing the Wall Street Crash, telling Michael to sell, but Michael held on. Cue copious swearing from Tommy as is to be expected.
Polly looked very sexy in her first scene! A more flattering hairstyle I noticed.

Well I think this is a lot better than all that guff in series 4 with the American comedy gangster. A bit violent for me tonight watching the recording so I had to peer out from behind a fan! Arthur, Arthur, Arthur, you must stay calm!

I've decided that as there's only 6 of them, I'm going to save them up for a binge.

Some very trippy camera work last night, I thought. My head was swimming a bit!
I won't spoil this for Miranda by talking about the plot, except to say I still dislike Michael and am very disappointed in Finn, who was such a sweet boy. But in a side issue I had to Google Sir Oswald Mosley last night after a reference to his sex life! I didn't know he was married (to a Curzon) before Diana Mitford and also had long affaires with his first wife's step mother and younger sister. Blimey!

Well. That packed a surprise and a half! I wont say too much in case Miranda hasn't watched yet though, but in other news....
I knew I was right to take a hearty dislike to Michael, what a git.
And loose lipped Finn, oh dear. However this plotline was a bit tricky to sell as we all know Mosley wasn't shot at a rally in 1929.
At one major point I didn't know if Tommy was hallucinating, or indeed if I was!!! I think it could have done with being a 90 minute episode as we did seem to race through some parts and Ada and Lizzie didn't get a look in.
There was one line from Tommy which really made me laugh though. After Michael (the git) had made his new generation speech, Tommy called them back in for a subsidiary meeting "of the generation that actually does all the f*****g work!"

I saw something online today about deleted scenes from the finale including one about Polly. I think they should have left them in! There is also debate about how Polly would always back Michael in any showdown with Tommy - but she was very closely involved with Tommy from his childhood wasn't she, almost a surrogate mother? So although Michael is her son, I dont see why she couldn't back Tommy because Michael wants all the money and success for very little effort it seems to me. And he is a git.

Peaky Blinders is coming to an end.
BBC One has announced that the drama will come to an end with its upcoming sixth series, which just started filming.
While the TV series is coming to an end, series creator Steven Knight has teased that “the story will continue in another form.”
“Peaky is back and with a bang. After the enforced production delay due to the Covid pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher”, Knight added. “We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it.”
“We are very excited that filming for Peaky Blinders has begun and so grateful to everyone for all their hard work to make it happen”, said Tommy Bulfin, executive producer for the BBC. “Steve’s scripts for series six are truly remarkable and provide a fitting send-off which we are sure will delight fans.”

Has anyone been watching series 6? For me it is weaker than previous ones and is too Tommy-centric. I know it all revolves around him but there doesn’t seem any room for others. Arthur has appeared a bit, Ada less and Finn has had about 3 lines. I imagine some of this was down to covid, but the big problem is of course the absence of Polly. It really does underline just how much she brought to the show.
I also find myself calling out what the next shot will be, as Tommy looks to the sky so we see his blue eyes, then to the side where we see his cheekbones! Don’t get me wrong, I love those shots, but it’s just not what it was really.

TBH, I haven't watched this series or the last one. The first 3 were good but I was disappointed with S4 and didn't want to see it go downhill.

I watched the finale last night, and actually had a dreadfully violent dream with a touch of horror!😱.
I thought it was pretty good and did NOT see the final twist coming at all. In fact, thanks to BBC lighting and focus, even though the scene was in the open air I had to freeze frame and go up to the TV to check it out. Maybe I need to buy a larger TV!
I do not think much of the fact the Finn has drawn the short straw, and am by no means a fan of this parvenu Duke.

For anyone interested and in case it gets buried in the bumper Christmas schedules, the Ballet Rambert production of Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby airs on New Year’s Day, BBC4 at 9.25. I think it was quite well received wasn’t it? Perhaps more with audiences than the critics? Also, Benjamin Zephaniah voices the spoken word bits.
