Thursday, (5th) at 9pm.
He follows in the footsteps of the many Scots who emigrated to the USA in the search for a better life. In his travels, he meets the naughtiest 'nuns' in the world.
Having seen the trailer, it looks interesting, so I think I'll give it a go.

I'll be giving it a go too. I watch all Billy's travel programmes.

I'm looking forward to this. It will probably be his last one given his Parkinsons.

That was interesting. Lovely scenery, great presenter (he always is), but why so much background music? Spoils it really. will continue to watch, as I find Billy's travels are always interesting.

I did look forward to it but had to give up halfway as I found the sound awful particularly Billy ,no subtitles for the deaf though they are permanently switched on for me,maybe not helped by the background musak mentioned above,I have learnt to ignore B M but perhaps I don't really manage that

Enjoyable as ever, though you can sort of tell they had to pick out Billy's best moments and discard others.
Re BGM - I didn't really notice it in this. However, I'm a strong opponent of it and welcome the day when it's just as switch-offable as audio, subtitles etc. There are almost no documentaries in which I want to hear someone else's rubbish idea of what enhances the programme.
Re subtitles - my understanding is subtitles, if supplied at all, are part of the transmitted stream and are always there whether displayed or not, on both the live broadcast and on recordings. I watched this as a freesat (HD) recording, with subtitles. I also have a backup freeview (HD) recording in which subs are also available. So, make sure subs are switched on at playback time. It can take a while, like a minute or more, for them to start showing once you do switch them on.
But, NB - this may not be true of players. I recently watched This Way Up ep 5 on C4 as a recording, with subs. I then decided I couldn't wait to watch ep 6 so moved over to All4 player (more fool me!), on which subs were not available. BBC is the best, subs are always available for everything (if sometimes hilariously inaccurate!) including on iPlayer.

An enjoyable trip around the USA, as always with Billy. He is noticeably declining, sadly, but I'm glad he still feels up to doing these amusing journeys and he is enjoying himself.
Was surprised at the size of the parades celebrating their Scottishness!

Geometryman Thanks for the advice on STs and BGM usually.....I sometimes manage both fairly well but nowadays and in my 80s I give up after a first try but do manage Okish. Have had a few days off signing in so have some catching up to do
