Sad to see very small crowds so far but some great performances already, despite the heat

With all the drama going on, I haven't had chance to see any. Hopefully I can catch up tomorrow.

It is being called a disaster by some of the athletes. 28 of the women athletes had to withdraw from the marathon. France's Yohann Diniz who will be attempting to retain his world title in the 50km walk said: "I am extremely upset. If we were in the stadium we would have normal conditions, but outside they have placed us in a furnace, which is just not possible. They are making us guinea pigs."

They aren't running the marathon in the middle of the day, are they? Are the organisers completely mad?

.....the mixed relay was entertaining when the Japanese decided to run their team in a different order to the other teams.....so The men ran against the women and the women against the men.....Michael Johnson was not impressed......

Watching this evening - one comment, can we ban the bikini in athletics. Not buying any logical reason for it other than the ubiquitous crotch shot from the camera.

A scandal has been brewing over the use of 'block cams'. New close-up camera shots of sprinters settling into their starting blocks are being restricted following a complaint by two female German athletes. The world athletics body IAAF agreed only to show close-ups of athletes crouched, awaiting the starting pistol. The "Block Cam" is an innovation for the world championships in Doha, Qatar. Gina Lückenkemper and Tatjana Pinto complained they had not been consulted about the cameras installed in the blocks for their 100m races. Their complaint was raised with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) by Germany's athletics association, the DLV. Lückenkemper and Pinto - both knocked out in the 100m semi-finals - called the intimate cameras "very questionable. I find it very unpleasant stepping over these cameras as I get into the blocks wearing these scanty clothes," Lückenkemper said. Doha: German women sprinters win limits on intimate close-ups

Wot? As in a rear view of the athletes as they settle in the blocks? Which perv came up with that idea? And which perv allowed it?
Dear god.... glad I haven't seen that.

Well considering it's a common pose in pornos, you would think so.

It seems that Michael Johnson described athletics chief Sebastian Coe as “full of s***” — not realising he was transmitting live. He had been talking about the choice of location. Johnson said that the event had been “extremely expensive” for the teams and added: “You’ve got to hold your marathon at midnight and put athletes under hell.”
