Don’t be put of by the plot of this, 7/8 year old discovers he has a superpower and his struggling single Mum isn’t totally pleased with it, it’s a gem of a series....I’m 6 episodes in and I’m loving every minute of it - the boy can act. Highly Recommended

I did think about watching but yeah, the trailer put me off. I might give it a go.

I'm into the second episode and have to admit it's not what was expecting. But it is good. The weird bit is that the dad is played by an actor who I remember as a hopper in The Wire. So it's really odd seeing him so grown up!

And it's set up nicely for a second series.

I dont have Netflix so I hope repeats show up on cable. It sounds interesting.
After Miranda mentioned a cast member from the The Wire I checked IMDB and see it features several! That alone makes it worth a look!
Plus I think it's set in Atlanta?
Not many shows or films are set in Atlanta or "The ATL" as locals call it, which is a shame because it's a city that mixes a Deep South tradition and way of life with a more modern, forward thinking big city culture.
And those two things are often at odds to coexist.

It is set in Atlanta. And one of the things I really liked about is that more than half the cast are black and there's not one single gang-banger or ex-crim amongst them. They are professionals like doctors and dancers and scientists. There's waitresses and shopworkers. It's so unusual in American TV. Especially as the single mother who is one of the protagonists isn't single cos she got knocked up and abandoned. That is really unusual for a black single mother in TV dramas.

Thank you Miranda. I think I'm going to have to sign up to Netflix and watch it. I just got a smart tv so a good reason to break it in.

Netflix is definitely worth the money, I reckon. Some great original programming from them. You have to see The Good Place.

Well noted!
From the romance of Gone with the Wind, through the reconstruction after being razed and burnt by Sherman, Atlanta has always represented the "pure class and dignity" of the deep south, yet always with the realization that just across the city limits it's still Georgia and a different world altogether.
So really refreshing to not only hear of a series done there but also one that does justice to it being a sanctuary of modernity amongst the madness.
If you ever have a chance to visit its terrific city.

Krikey I just googled The Good Place and see first run episodes are on NBC, it's a terrestrial network show and I've never seen it!
I don't watch a ton of terrestrial tv besides sports but I do watch Super Store and it's on NBC on the same night as The Good Place.
I cant believe I've never seen it by accident!
Well I will fix that! Thank you for the heads up Miranda!

Be warned that you have to watch TGP from the start. It won't make any sense if you don't. It's not something you can dip into.

Well noted!
So it's not a typical sitcom where each episode is stand alone and you can dip in an out without needing to watch them in order.
I'm glad you said that. I might have just started with this weeks new epi.
One of the good things about my current cable package is I can watch things on catch up and in their correct order.
The only downside is I cant fast forward through the adverts.
