Forget the Tom Cruise films and treat yourself to the real deal, one of the best spy series ever.
Mission: Impossible was a very popular and long running hit. Intelligently written, terrific acting from the main cast and the weekly guest stars who were often big time celebs who wanted to be on M:I.
A lot of people forget in series one the boss of the M:I team was not Peter Graves, it was Steven Hill - who later starred as the DA boss on Law & Order for many years.
But he was an orthodox Jew and often had to leave filming early for religious reasons.
So he was replaced in seasons 2 and beyond by Graves as "Jim" who always got the self destruct tape of that weeks mission.
Also after Martin Landau left the show a few seasons later he was replaced by Leonard Nimoy still looking a bit like Mr. Spock.
This clip shows a mix of some of the openings of the show. That great theme music and it was always interesting how the opening montage was always snippets of that particular episode. It must have been quite a weekly editing chore to put it together!
The last clip is from the 1988 reboot series and yes - Phil Morris is indeed the son of Greg Morris from the original series.

The series was shown recently on one of the Freeview channels. You certainly can't beat the originals. I can't recall the 1988 ones.

The 1988-89 series was interesting because right before production was to start there was a writers strike in the US and the screen actors guild went on sympathy strike as well I believe.
So they moved production to Australia and used Australian actors for the most part.
For the scripts they used scripts from the original series just slightly modified for the technology of the time (since the M:I team used all those cool James Bond gadgets)
It was a bit controversial as a result seen as something of a strike breaker program.
