Another of my childhood favourites. Who could forget the line "Hiho Silver, away". Starred Clayton Moore (1914 to 1999) and Jay Silverhells (1912 to 1980). According to IMDB Clayton Moore lived by the Lone Ranger Creed all his life.

The radio show had an episode that dealt with the back story of how he left the rangers and became a vigilante after he and several colleagues were ambushed and left for dead. It's pretty dark.
Avoid the awful Johnny Depp movie too.
