Alibi’s first original drama series Traces will premiere on Monday December 9th at 9pm, with the second episode airing the following day (Tuesday December 10th) in the same time-slot.
Traces explores the world of the Scottish Institute of Forensic Science and follows Emma Hedges, Professor Sarah Gordon and Professor Kathy Torrance – who together will use the rigors of forensics to uncover the truth about an unsolved murder case. When 23-year-old Emma Hedges returns to Scotland to take up a new position as a lab assistant at SIFA, she signs up to a MOOC – Massive Online Open Course – which teaches the principles of forensic science.
But she soon discovers that the fictitious case study has a strikingly similar and shocking link to her past. As Emma’s sleuthing takes her into darker corners and unpicks more and more secrets, it becomes clear that she should trust no-one. It will be Sarah and Kathy’s exacting minds that reward Emma’s faith in the science that has fuelled her imagination and who will ultimately bring a killer to justice.
The drama series, which is based on an idea by best-selling crime writer Val McDermid and written by Amelia Bulimore, stars Molly Windsor, Laura Fraser, Jennifer Spence, Martin Compston, Laurie Brett, Vincent Regan, Michael Nardone and John Gordan Sinclair.

This was enjoyable. Lots of familiar faces in it. Have downloaded them all and I will watch them when there is a spare hour.

I’ve watched the first one so far, and was quite drawn in by the end. The forensics explanations are interesting, but quite dense.

I've watched the first two now, and I'm finding it intriguing. Molly Windsor is doing well in the lead. I liked her in the mini-series 'Cheat' which was on earlier this year. She reminds me a lot of Jodie Comer for some reason, but a bit more serious. Professor Kathy (the one with the Canadian accent, not Laura Fraser) looked very familiar too, turns out I know her (Jennifer Spence) from 'The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco'.
Yes, they're pretty heavy and quite mind-boggling at times. I'm amazed you can get bar codes and even fingerprints from burnt cardboard.

Very disappointed I can't see this. I know that's my choice but even so ...

Just finished this and I think it deserves more recognition. A few too many convenient coincidences, but I really liked the team and would watch them in further cases. There was one detail I noticed that I thought might be a clue that they then didn’t mention, so maybe it was a coincidence, but did anyone else see this? {SPOILER:Click to Show}Much was made of Marie’s missing pink dress. When Daniel and his mum were searching her attic, he picked up a wad of pink fabric and tossed it aside. I wondered if they were suggesting Marie was killed at that house.

UKTV’s Alibi channel have renewed their original drama series Traces for a second series.
Six episodes have been commissioned, which are set to premiere in 2021.
The renewal comes after the first series averaged just shy of one million viewers per episode.

I’ve just discovered Season 2 of Traces has dropped on Alibi. I’ve watched the first episode and it starts with the trial for Season 1’s murder + a new case.

Yes, S1 was on BBC1 about a year ago.
I've started on S2 now.

Finished season 2 of Traces now. I was a bit disappointed that Molly Windsor only appears in the first two episodes, and only in connection with her personal life rather than anything forensic.
Still quite good though, with the two profs and the DCI returning, plus a new character played by Laila Rouass coming in on the police side - all with private issues in addition to their professional lives!
