Well this was rather a Christmas treat. The plot may be a bit thin, but the songs are lovely and the singing and dancing is excellent. I liked the way it was choreographed, a lot of it reminded me of Strictly group numbers (the good ones!).
The Dominion is a cavernous theatre, but you could hear clear as a bell where I was in the circle. (My neighbour said it was too loud for him, thank God he didn't go to Dreamgirls which nearly made your ears bleed.) There were quite a few spare seats but maybe because it is a large space to fill, although I did wonder if some were caught out by the rail strike.
I did a quick survey and we all enjoyed it a lot. Danny Mac was his usual matinée idol self, extremely popular with our audience and really good in the role, but the three other leads were all very accomplished. I was thinking in Act 1 that this could do with a tap number, which we got at the start of Act 2, and it was great. I am sure I read somewhere that the girl playing Judy (Clare Halse) who does that number with Dan Burton was in 42nd Street so no wonder it was good! Brenda Edwards, from X Factor and more importantly Luton, my pob, was also terrific as Martha.
I am sure you will have a great time, Pearl.

I certainly did have a great time, Marion. The show was magnificent - a real spectacular! The costumes were really outstanding and makes Strictly look tatty by comparison! As you say, Danny was good in the role, as he has been in everything I have seen so far (On The Town, Sunset Boulevard and Amelie!) I loved his singing in Blue Skies and Count Your Blessings.
Dan Burton's tap dancing was superb and partnered with Clare Halse they made a rather small song into something out of this world. To see the whole stage with all the dancers tapping away is a sight to behold!
All the travel arrangements went well, even if protracted. I got in at about 23.50 and was in bed by midnight!

Sounds great. If I remember, it wasn't much of an actual story in the film version, but it made up for it with some great Christmassy numbers.

I wonder if this is the first time a musical-film was written specifically to play off the popularity of a popular song that appeared in a different musical-film years earlier (Holiday Inn).
Its obviously the norm now with jukebox musicals like Mama Mia, Jersey Boys, Rock of Ages etc.
