The Enemy Within will receive its UK premiere on 5USA on Tuesday January 7th at 9pm.
The Enemy Within tells the story of Erica Shepherd, a brilliant former CIA operative who is now known as the most notorious traitor in American history serving life in a Supermax prison. Against every fiber of his being but with nowhere else to turn, FBI Agent Will Keaton enlists Shepherd to help track down a fiercely dangerous and elusive criminal she knows all too well.
For Keaton, it’s not easy to trust the woman who cost him so much. While Shepherd and Keaton have different motivations for bringing the enemy to justice, they both know that to catch a spy… they must think like one.
The drama series, which was cancelled after a single 13 episode season, stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman and Noah Mills.

I remember Jennifer Carpenter from the series "Dexter."
She played Dexter's sister and was also a homicide detective who was eventually promoted to lieutenant.
She is thin as a rail and looks to weigh about 85 pounds dripping wet but she does play "tough" convincingly. Of course in Dexter part of her tough persona was that she usually spoke with an endless stream of profanities. Lol
That is not allowed on terrestrial TV (this series was on NBC) so I imagine she has to 'tough' another way.

I remember watching Dexter, and thinking that a) she needs to eat a sandwich, and b) buy a belt before your trousers fall down!

Gosh that woman is thin isnt she? Her hands!
Anyway, just watched episode 1 and it was all a bit fraught for me. I know the adrenaline would be going whilst on the op, but they are so flipping pumped up in the office. And her escape from CIA custody was relatively easy, well for her, not for the likes of me obvs. Still when they mentioned all the thousands of sleeper agents at the end, my interest went back up again. Will it be another Americans? Sadly not I would hazard, but I shall give it another go.
It reminded me a bit of the one with the woman covered in tattoos. Everyone was incredibly fraught in that as well. They should get some mindfulness classes going in the FBI.

The uneasy relationship between local police and "the Feds" (FBI) is always played up in cop shows. The cops obviously hate it when the Feds come in to try and claim jurisdiction over a case. The cops are always shown as being looser, more streetwise and certainly more morally ambiguous in their methods for dealing with suspects and witnesses. The FBI always being shown as very clean-cut, buttoned down, everything by the book and generally very uptight and stuffy. The Sopranos showed a different side to the FBI, made them more human, made their jobs look a lot more mundane and non-glamourous. Countless hours spent staked out in vans, eating junk food watching people come and go, dealing with your partner farting and having body odor. Listening to endless hours of recorded telephone conversations that amount to a hill of beans, meetings with informants that reveal nothing. Twin Peaks also a nice bit of a twist on the typical FBI agent. I mean Dale Cooper was very buttoned down and well-groomed but he was also pretty chill as well. Especially after some damn good coffee and pie.

Well episode two was full of surprises. It reminded me in that way of The Following. I loved that although so far Freeview has only shown one series. But several times per episode I would be shouting NOOOO! at some new surprise. Maybe it is on Prime although I would have to start at the beginning.

Once I got used to the fraughtness I really enjoyed this. What a shame it was cancelled after just one series.
