Just having a grouch day, I suppose. Am I alone in being fed up with the dailies and weekend mags showing plates (often cheap enamel) with churned over stuff (kale as often as not) often using at least one ingredient you could never find your area - supposing you knew what it was. Of course stewing up some stuff and then putting coriander leaves on it is almost getting out of date. And if only aubergine had a flavour as good as it looks - or sounds - would be nice..... or any flavour at all. ( It is good fried because it soaks up the fat but then it is not that awful word, healthy. Our lunch today included buttered mashed swede and onion gravy - how very pedestrian of us.

Oh dear, really a grouch day! I know what you mean though. Sainsbury's send me recipes from time to time though I have not subscribed, nor do I ever use their online delivery service. Anyway, there was a recipe that I thought I would try for plantain, coconut and spinach curry. I had to track down a plantain as Sainsbury's in my area doesn't sell them. I used rocket instead of spinach as I had some and it tastes much the same, and chilli infused oil instead of ordinary oil and a scotch bonnet, which would probably have blown my head off. Apart from that I followed the recipe and it was horrible! I will try hard to eat everything, especially if I've put some effort into making it, but this was inedible. I think I probably didn't fry the plantain enough but am not tempted to try again.
