Well this got the audience to its feet! A big fat standing O, with some clapping and people starting to cheer before the actual final song finished. This is a very sporadic tour so no upcoming dates that I could see, until Autumn.
I remember seeing this so well, compared to what I did last week, lol. I saw it very early on in its West End debut run and there was an exceptional cast. This current tour is advertised as Lyn Paul's final set of shows in the role. Not wishing to be cruel, to me she seemed a bit too old for the role. She really reminded me of Mary Berry! She still sang it very well, but there was an element of frailty to my eyes. The other criticism is that Mickey's heartbreak at the end (and which was gut wrenching in the original version) was rather muted. We were all in bits when we saw it the first time but not so here.
The chap who played the other twin, Eddie, was a dead ringer for a young Robson Green. (To my eyes these twins looked nothing like each other.) And Mr Shirley Ballas was the older brother Sammy.
So it was a very enjoyable trip, extremely popular with the audience but just lacked a bit of emotional punch for me.
